    vapor lock...just curious

I have a '35 Fordor and 'think' I just had a vapor lock issue this past weekend. I had replaced the coil last week (spark looked weak) & it started right up that day & a couple days later, I drove for about 30 mins in 90 degree heat and cruising in 3rd gear I lost power and couldn't restart it...

    35 banjo steering wheel

Thanks to you & TJ for that advice. Now if I can find a replacement wheel I'll make sure to get the horn/light rod to match

    35 banjo steering wheel

Thanks; if I changed to the horn/light switch correct for the year of the wheel, would that involve a lot of rewiring, since the lighting/horn wiring currently goes down through the steering column? (I'm not sure where the light switch is on '38-39's or how complicated a change that would be?

    35 banjo steering wheel

I have a '35 Fordor with a '36 Banjo wheel. It was on the car when I purchased it, so I don't know the manufacturer of the wheel. The paint on the wheel is chipping off (no cracks in the wheel) and the spokes are a little loose. Is there a relatively easy way to tighten the spokes, either...

    Banjo Wheel for '35

Thanks John, even though I know it's not standard on the '35s, I do like the banjo wheels and am looking to repair/repaint or replace with another banjo.

    Banjo Wheel for '35

I have a '35 Fordor that had a Banjo wheel installed when I purchased it (picture attached). From the prior posts describing various banjo wheels, this seems to be a '36 wheel. The paint is chipping, and appears to be brown under the black paint. I was going to repaint the wheel, but also the...

    35 Fordor Deluxe Steering/Dash color

No problem on the sideways photo, I saved the image and rotated it. I found the color charts for the '35 Fords on the TCP global site: (http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1935-Ford-pg01.jpg) and if you scroll down you'll see the charts, including the ones attached (page 4)...

    35 Fordor Deluxe Steering/Dash color

Thanks - it hadn't occurred to me that the banjo wheel was a '36, so that explains the brown paint under where the black is flaking off.

    35 Fordor Deluxe Steering/Dash color

Thanks... that's really helpful. Metallic Taupe sounds like it should be brown/tan, but in your picture, it looks black or dark grey? Is it really black or dark grey or is that just the picture? As reference, attached is the current color of my wheel/dash. I assume my dash color is...

    35 Fordor Deluxe Steering/Dash color

The (black) paint on the steering wheel of my '35 Fordor Deluxe touring sedan is flacking off, and it is brown underneath. I'm trying to determine the original color. I have a 1935 brochure, that has color drawings rather than actual pictures; in some drawings the wheel looks black, some...

    Foaming/cavitating coolant in my 34

Is there an effective way to drain the antifreeze out of the radiator to replace it with distilled water?

    Foaming/cavitating coolant in my 34

I've read through all the posts in this thread, and with a somewhat similar problem, many of the points here are helpful. I have a 35 Fordor with overflow tube off the top of the radiator. I purchased this car during this summer and drove it frequently in 80-90 degree temps with no real...

    '35 Gear Grinding in 1st & Reverse

I don't think my engine is idling fast when it gets hot; I don't have a tach on it to know exactly, but by sound & feel it seems to be idling normally. When I was experiencing the grinding I was careful to make sure I had let the engine slow down before trying to put it in 1st or reverse.

    '35 Gear Grinding in 1st & Reverse

I replaced the trans fluid with 80W-90 GL4 and while it was on the lift I adjusted the clutch pedal to reduce free play. I drove the car approx 30+ mins to see if the grinding went away when the fluid was hot... and I didn't experience any grinding when shifting into reverse or 1st, so either...

    '35 Gear Grinding in 1st & Reverse

Mart, I tried the test you suggested. When the noise stopped, I had very little movement before the pedal hit the floor. I tried a couple times to make sure it was consistent; it did stop the noise, but I'd estimate I had approx 1" before the pedal hit the floor. Does this sound like an...

    '35 Gear Grinding in 1st & Reverse

Thanks to all for the very helpful comments. 1) Charlie & others advice about the temp of the trans fluid explains why I was having the issue once the car had been running for awhile. I had wondered if someone had put in the wrong weight fluid when it was last changed. 2) I have not tried...

    '35 Gear Grinding in 1st & Reverse

The free travel now is approx 1-3/4", and the manual says on the ’35 it should be 1-1/2 to 2”. The only concern I have about lessening the free play is the manual says “the increased pedal clearance of the ’35-36 clutch is necessary to prevent interference between the throwout bearing and...

    '35 Gear Grinding in 1st & Reverse

Hi, to fill in some of the blanks: the odometer shows 85,000; I purchased it 2 months ago and have driven it approx 300 miles. The grinding started the last 2-3 times I've driven it, so I drove it about 200 miles before I started having this issue. To add a little more, as an example...
