Replacing typical rust areas on the 1930 Model A truck

FWIW, I have a miller 251 that i have had for many years and 2 years ago, I went to a guys place and took a crash course on making and installing body panels. He dais that a MIG was OK but I might consider a TIG. I bought a TIG and after getting used to it, I REALLY like it and use it for more...

Replacing typical rust areas on the 1930 Model A truck

I spot weld the panel in with MIG then finish weld with TIG. If you want to use a MIG, spot weld the panel in, then spot between the spots bouncing from end to end and you could stop and cool with an air gun. Keep adding spots between the existing spots until the weld is complete. The point is...

    Radius rod rubber ball replacement.

While i appreciate everyone that took the time to respond, I was actually only asking about lubrication of the ball, not how authentic the rubber ball is for a Model A or IF I should use the rubber ball. The car drove smooth as butter and straight down the road with the old rubber ball but the...

    4 post lift

This is the first I've heard of this. I have, however seen that picture before. I wasn't there when this happened but I am pretty certain that the wreck was caused by someone lifting by the body and not the frame so the weight of the frame/drive train ripped the body bolts out. Whether that is...

    Radius rod rubber ball replacement.

My car has the rubber ball radius rod repair on it and the ball is pooched so I am replacing it. Should it go on dry or lube it?. If it is to be lubed, lube inside, outside or both?. If so, regular grease or???.

    4 post lift

Looks like the same 2 post i have. Bend pac, 10,000 lb, asymmetrical low profile. When I set mine up I went with the wide stance thinking about door clearance then found that the front arms BARELY reach the frame on a model A. Have to be dead centre between the posts.

    4 post lift

I'm thinking more that it is photoshopped. The yellow bar across the top is the safety switch to prevent such an occurrence and the bar appears to be still in the neutral position and not bent at all, the "wrinkles" in the door are un-natural and why would the roof pillars and windows be...

While it is true that you can get some real worthless junk out of China, It's wrong to automatically assume that its junk just because it is Made in China just like it is wrong to automatically assume that it is quality just because it is made in the USA. China puts out some quality stuff (but...

    4 post lift

ANY lift is better that no lift. Buy what suits your needs. If you want to store cars on it and do general maintenance (grease and oil changes), I would get a 4 post IF you have the room. Of course you can do those things on a 2 post but setting the arms can be a PITA ESPECIALLY on cars low to...

Why Grease should not be used in a Steering Gearbox

Personally, I run CHG in my steering gears and should the bushings prematurely fail, I will change them and switch to oil. Not a big deal. I reality, corn head grease would likely work perfect in the transmission as well and likely shift a lot better. I ended up with CHG in my ****** because i...

    Marvel Mystery Oil

I've use MMO and seafoam and like them both. I have a'74 Ford 1 ton that was parked for a long time and i needed to use it. I drained the fuel and put in fresh and got it started but it ran poorly. Wouldn't idle at all, anything under 1000RPM and it would stall. Had my son hold it at...

    Diesel Conversion

That's a good question. I don't know. I boxed the frame "just because". The engine is about the same weight as the banger and only 70HP so It wasn't necessary but I boxed it anyway.

    Diesel Conversion

Thanks. One of the reasons i chose this engine was that it is exactly the same length as the stock banger and is simple like the banger so it looks right at home in there. I am also using the mercedes 4spd which posed some challenges with the shifter since i want everything to look stock (except...

LOVE IT. I'm putting a 2.4L mercedes diesel in my '31 delivery.

    A working Sedan Delivery

It's a wonderful photo. There's nothing "mystical" about the physics, just some misunderstanding of how much a little South bend like that actually weighs. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that the Delivery may come with heavier springs in the back due to the fact that it is a commercial...

    A working Sedan Delivery

That's not a very big lathe. Like I said, I have a 9x40 south bend and the lathe itself weighs about 200 pounds. There is no comparison, weight wise to a little SB like that an a bigger lathe with quick change gear boxes an such. My newer 13x40 lathe weighs probably 1200 pounds. Don't know for...

    A working Sedan Delivery

I don't think it would be that bad. The lathe, bench and tooling in the pic would weigh MAYBE 400 pounds, that just the weight of two guys riding in the back. If a Delivery can't handle the weight of two passengers in the back it isn't much of a delivery.

OK, now THAT is cool. I am doing a '31 DD right now and i have an old 9" south bend, not quite as old as that one but similar. That would have been a great way to finish off mine if I hadn't taken a different path already. Might have to find another DD LOL. Thank you very much for sharing.

    Crazy temp gauge idea

I have a moto meter on mine and the only time it registers anything is when it's too late. It doesn't touch the coolant so it only reads steam. I put a temp gauge in mine and wouldn't run without it but that is just me. I would be trilled if the MM read actual coolant temp accurately but my...
