    Johnson lifters or not ?

Johnson lifters are much heavier than stock (unadjustable) FOMOCO lifters. Lighter is better. There is a significant difference in weight among the various Johnson-style lifters on the market. Shop around. One way to spend a quiet evening with a postal scale is to weigh each lifter and file...

Does your Coupe have a Trunk or Rumble seat

It started out with a rumble seat, I converted to a trunk. Glad I did.

'31 Coupe; not a how much is it worth Q, but....

IMHO the price seems a tad high. I think $4,000 is closer, given that all the sheet metal is there, the title is clear, etc. If it's going to be a rod, the Firestones would probably be sold, as would the rear end, and maybe the front axle too. Price would depend on condition of metal.

    Flathead V-8 Engine Stand/Adaptor

I bought one from Stumpy's, and was surprised to discover that the round shaft was EXACTLY the same diameter as the hole in my engine stand. No clearance. I ended up cutting the shaft off Stumpy's and welding on a new (correct?) size shaft. I don't remember where I originally bought the engine...

    Flat head Motor Stuck

One slick method I read about was to jack up the front end, put a socket wrench with a long handle on the crank pulley bolt and lower the car such that the weight of the car rests on the socket handle end. Go away for a day or so, then check if anything has moved. A piece of pipe over the...

    Steering Wheel Restoration

I have a very rough steering wheel to be restored/recast. The ads for Quality Restorations and Koch's both look impressive. Has anyone out there used either one? Any recommendations? Thanks for your help. Bob

    4 Spoke Steering Wheel

Looking for a white plastic 4 spoke steering wheel from the mid '50's. This was sold at Ford dealers as an after market accessory. It has a horn ring with the Ford emblem in the center, as I recall.

    Flathead to c-4

I just completed the AOD to 8BA install, using Speedway's kit. This is my 2nd use of this kit, and it went well EXCEPT the instructions are not too clear and complete. For example, you need to use 2 block plates to get the starter snout back far enough to clear the flex plate. On the prior...

    '29 Rumble to Trunk

I have a '29 Coupe with a rumble seat that I want to convert to a trunk. Is it true that I can just flip the lid around, or is there a different curvature to the rumble vs. trunk. Another point of confusion is that the latch end of the rumble lid also has what appear to be provisions to...

    Spark Retard or ?

Thanks for the help. This is a real adventure. Who knew I would need to be so intimately involved with the ever-changing needs of an engine. The advances in technology over the past 81 years are impressive. Thanks again, Bob

    Spark Retard or ?

I have a '29 Roadster that is an aging restoration, but looks original (stock). I'm new to the Model A and its quirks, so please be patient with my dumb questions.. Per instructions, I push the left hand lever all the way up (fully retarded), pull the choke and press the starter. When it...
