    Rear brake woes

First of all, let me say how much I appreciate the folks who've taken the time to try to help me with my problem. But I'm still stumped. I tried turning the adjusting wedge back to make sure it wasn't caught on one of the ridges, but that didn't make any difference. The space between the brake...

    Rear brake woes

One more question for nkaminar while I'm trying to figure out how to spread the shoes with the springs on. Do I need to remove the cam and flip it end for end, or just rotate it 180 degrees while it's still in the hole?

    Rear brake woes

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I turned the adjusting wedge counterclockwise to its stop before starting to put the drum back on. That's not the problem.

    Rear brake woes

Here's another picture with the brake drum on as far as it will go. When I try to push the brake lever back, it expands the shoes further and won't go all the way back. If I push the lever all the way back before trying to put the drum on, it still won't go on, as the shoes are too tight. I...

    Rear brake woes

I'm installing rear brakes after getting them back from Snyder's, completely rebuilt. I removed the radius rods to make it easier. I positioned the service brake lever forward to clear the fork in the radius rod and put the drum back on, forgetting to return the service brake lever to the...

How do you tell which is left and which is right? When installed, is the hook pointing toward the front or rear? What happens if you get them on backwards?

    problems instaling rear brake drum

You're right about the adjusting wedge being all the way out. I spoke to Snyder's and they agreed. I'll wait until everything is back together and then tighten things up if need be. Thanks for your help

    problems instaling rear brake drum

Thanks for your help. I disconnected the rod to the emergency brake lever, and that allowed me to slide the drum on. It fits fine and turns easily. But I still can't get the adjusting wedge to turn. Suggestions?

    problems instaling rear brake drum

Snyder's rebuilt my backing plate, relined service brake shoes and emergency brake band. They installed my hub on a new brake drum and arched the shoes to the drum.

    problems instaling rear brake drum

I'm trying to install my right rear brake drum on my '30 coupe. The whole setup was just rebuilt by Snyder's. I had difficulty getting the drum on over the shoes, then remembered I'd had to pull on the service brake lever to line up the clevis and pin. I removed the clevis pin, the lever...

    Emergency brake actuating lever problem

I'll try to explain my problem one more time. I'm trying to put the emergency brake actuating lever on the shaft that comes through the backing plate. As received assembled from Snyder's, the keyway for the woodruff key is at the bottom, but the slot in the actuating lever is at the top when the...

    Installing rebuilt rear backing plate

Ttfor the comments. I ended up removing the radius rods, which made some things easier, had to remove the brake shoes to get the cam out and oriented the right way. Now, I'm trying to put on the brake actuating lever. When the shaft comes through the backing plate (brake shoes and link...

    Installing rebuilt rear backing plate

I could do that, but even when the backing plate is off the car, the lever won't turn to the upright position. Don't know why this is so.

    Installing rebuilt rear backing plate

I'm working on the left rear, the only one back from Snyder's so far. It's not the brake lever, but the service brake lever that's the problem. I haven't got to the e brake lever yet. The backing plate came back assembled, with shoes, etc. I just can't get the service brake lever through the...

    Installing rebuilt rear backing plate

Hi-- Got my rear brakes done by Snyder's. I can snake the service brake lever through the radius rod, but it's in the wrong position, and I can't make the lever rotate to the upright position where it needs to be to attach the brake rod. When I put it through the radius rod, it's in a...

    Stoplight switch problem

The rod appears to be straight, hard to tell for sure lying under the car. I notice the end with the clevis is threaded, allowing adjustment. The switch contacts are open when the rod inside the switch is depressed, so I'm thinking maybe I need to figure out how far out the rod in the switch is...
