1940 Ford standard hood nose piece 01A-8218A

My January 1946 parts book and the Green Bible did not list it. After I read the responses from other members I got in the attic and dug out a May 1941 dated parts book and the 01A-8218A is listed in that parts book. Thanks for the responses.

1940 Ford standard hood nose piece 01A-8218A

I have a NOS 1940 Ford standard hood nose piece 01A-8218A, with a 6-40 date cast in it. This part number does not exist in any original Ford parts book I have dated 1940 to 1949. For some reason this bothers me. Anyone got insight why this is? I tried to load picture with this question, but the...

    40 pickup

The 1940 pickup hood is different than the 1940 standard car, which accounts for the needed extra length of the pickup hood release.

40 engine temperature drop by 20 degrees

I have a 1940 85 hp engine, all stock, with a 160 degree thermostat that runs 180 to 200 in summer driving. Took the intake off to adjust the valves and noticed the paint on the intake was cracked in the area the exhaust gases enter the intake manifold. I decided to have the exhaust openings in...

    Mixing synthetic and regular oil

Saw a TV show not long ago were a few old cars were driven across the country. One of the old cars was a Ford flathead. This show was sponsored by Shell Oil. The flathead Ford driver said Shell ran several test to determine the best oil to use in the flathead for the cross country trip. The oil...

Long live the early Flat Top 6!

I have a 1941 Ford 6 cylinder truck and had the same situation a few years ago. I went to O'Reillys and they had a green colored belt that was an exact fit. I think the green belt was industrial or something special. The person at O'Reillys should be able to figure it out. Color of the belt...

    41 ford pickup question.

Matt, I just watched your video on the fender repair on your 1941. I work on my Fords by myself and your video was good for me to watch. Since you are in England with a 1941 American made Ford truck I would say the odds are very good your truck was an armed forces unit when new. My thinking is...

40 Ford power valve & jet solution for my car

The carburetor I just changed the power valve and jet size on was a rebuilt carburetor from Daytona Carburetor two years ago. Do not know why they put a 5.5 power valve in a single carburetor original set up. Carburetor looks like a piece of art work, but no acceleration.

40 Ford power valve & jet solution for my car

Here are some things I have found out about power valves and jets for the Holley 94 carburetor series 91-99 Ford used in 1940. The standard power valves Ford used with the 94 carburetor was 7.5. The standard jet size is 51. I will not go into all the details about these two pieces just to save...

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

All compression checks I did were cold engine. Great deal of work to put all the engine back together to do a warm engine check not knowing if the problem was corrected.

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

For all that are interested here is where my situation is. When I started this I thought 3 days and it will be done. It has taken 3 months to get where I am now. To make a long story short I had a friend come by on Memorial Day that has flathead engine experience. The valve base in the engine...

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

Lot of good advise here. The 7 seconds of grinding is not all at one time. I did about 2 seconds and checked it. Still had dark spots of die. Did the grind again for about 2 seconds and still dark spots. Ended up with about total of 7 seconds on three of the seats. What else can you do if the...

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

For those interested here is the latest with this project. Today I did the stone work on all the valve seats. The valve seats that had 60 to 65 compression needed about 7 seconds of grinding to clean them up and remove the dye. The two cylinders that had 90 compression only needed about 3...

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

Another up date if you are interested. Hooked up the valve seat grinder today with the 1 5/8 45 degree stone. The valve seats on this engine are not smooth at all with gapes all around the seats. Did the seats on pistons one and two. After grinding the valve seats I could see a big improvement...

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

Just for an update to all that have an interest. I have purchased a Black and Decker valve seat grinder to clean up the valve seats. The stone I need to do the job is the 1 5/8, which came with my unit, but has a chip on the bottom of it. Also, the set did not have the flathead Ford valve guide...

40 V8 compression change all cylinders same time

Good advise about grit in the new motor. I have been thinking about this valve job that has gone bad in a short time. I have watched several videos on You Tube, and have seen machine shops doing valve jobs with the stones that do flathead engines on a regular bases. The machine shops say they...

The intake and exhaust valve guides both had rubber seals on them. No exhaust valve guides were stuck in the engine.
