As others have said....remove the radiator, get it professionally cleaned and repaired. That sending unit? Should that be installed 90 degrees to its current installation? That tubing does not look good bending around as it is. Secure it so it does not rattle and break

Gumwood - it was used for cabinetry - or poplar. Ford used maple on their woodie bodies - not ash. Gumwood was used on the woodie bodies for the roof slats, going front to back.

Follow the instructions that come the alternator, they are easy to use. You will need to go to 10 gauge wire.
