    Adjustable tappets.

From the two above replies, I assume it is OK to install adjustable tappets? Thanks for your list of suggestions burner31.Yes, using mushroom stem valves with split guides. Re. the cam. I have a couple of spares which are in good nick, so will choose the best of them and use that. If necessary...

    Adjustable tappets.

As my Covit-19 stay at home project, I have bulk stripped an old engine from a Phaeton that I have. It was completely seized and the oil in the sump was 100% sludge. I want to re-assemble it at minimal cost but will be replacing the rings and grinding /lapping the valves and seats. My question...

Need Picture of Cutaway Water Jacket

Brilliant idea Bob. Is there a Ford Barner prepared to modify a block ? It would be very interesting to record the result of the modification.

    Kangaroo fuel.

I totally agree with you updraught. The fitted exhaust pipe/muffler is virtually unbaffled which would improve the scavenging effect of the exhaust gasses . Will try the "tin can" muffler and report back.

    Kangaroo fuel.

A quick update! When using the hand throttle, the vehicle accelerates reasonably smoothley. Once the RPM is increased, the engine stabilises and operates well using the pedal. As mentioned in an earlier post, I have tried running the engine using three different carbies with no improvement. I...

    Kangaroo fuel.

I went for a short drive this pm.using the hand throttle, at low RPM the engine was as before but with an increase in RPM, there was a market improvement. I will be checking the ignition components next.

    Kangaroo fuel.

Thanks for the suggestions, may have to resort to fitting a foot rest.

    Kangaroo fuel.

No foot rest. I don't have one in my other model A and haven't felt a need for one. Would prefer to do without.

    Kangaroo fuel.

Well, not literally . I have just about finished the rebuild on my '28 Roadster Pickup but am having a difficult time getting the engine to accelerate smoothly. When I depress the accelerator whilst driving, the revs buid up very quickly, making my foot push harder on the accelerator pedal...

    Broken bolt on Bendix Spring

Remove starter motor, attach a rubber hose onto the end a portable vacumn cleaner hose, push the other end of the hose to the bottom of the housing, behind the flywheel and switch on the vacumn. Works every time.

    Starter Rod length?

Hi Brent. I will be using eye end of an old brake rod cut to the required length. The starter switch is an early type with a split pin so the length is more critical than a screw in type. I am a long way from installing the body, floorboards etc. so am unable to estimate the length. Hence the...

    Signal lights problem

After installing a set of indicators (flashers) on my 6 volt '28 Phaeton, they only illuminated with a faint glow. On re reading the instructions, I found the units are sent out with 12 volt bulbs installed with 6 volt bulbs supplied seperately.. Changed the bulbs and it worked perfectly.

    Subframe question.

Many thanks for all the comments, it would appear that the original sill was wood and at some time has been replaced as mentioned by both updraght and Wagga A'er. On closer inspection, I have found that pop rivets have been used to attach the body to the sill. Pop rivets only came out in '27 _...

    Subframe question.

Attached are some photo's as requested. Is the framework "original" or a home made job? My intent is to use the new subframe but that depends on the information passed on to me.

    Subframe question.

I have just received a new, complete, subframe for the 1928 roadster pickup that I am rebuilding. It would seem to me that the original subframe will have to be removed and the body reattached to the new subframe. Am I correct or way off the mark? If I am correct, how is the body attached to the...
