wide five lug nut torque and direction

in all the literature iv'e got i thougt some where there are left hand threaded fasteners. not the lug nuts. thanks again, Tom. On the big trucks, (I have 3), the lug nuts on the left side are left hand thread and the ones on the right side are right hand thread. This is probably what you are...

    Teach Me Voltage Regulators

I took my regulator and generator to the local auto battery and electric shop to have them checked out and the regulator adjusted. I did this twice on two set-ups with good results.

    1941 1.5 ton Ford Truck

1940 through 1947. There may be a few minor differences inside, one of which I know of is that on the 1940 door, the rectangular access cover is held by 5 screws and on the others it is held by 8 screws.

    Another Overheating Question

I do not like flex hoses. I have no scientific proof but it seems to me that the ridges would hamper efficient flow of the coolant. I do remember from some fluid mechanics studies at one time, that the smoother the inside of a pipe is, the more flow you get.

1940 ford chrome lever and switch plate

A trick I use is to wrap a thin piece of electrical (or any kind) of tape around the perimeter of the switch before removing the two screws which hold it on. This enables you to get the unit to your work bench where you can disassemble it on your terms rather than pick up the pieces off of the...

    Engine dies while driving

I vote with the sediment-in-fuel folks. My 37 engine did this when the screen in the fuel pump's sediment bowl would clog up. The sediment appeared to be small pieces of tank liner material which were in the threads on the bottom of the tank where the fuel line valve screws in. Installing the...

    Mounting dome distributor

Make two temporary studs and put them in finger tight. This will allow you to slip the gasket on and then the distributor. Turn the rotor with your finger as you line up the slot and slide the distributor in. Install the third bolt and then replace the two studs one at a time with the...

    Hair splitting for AnthonyG?

I was told by a mechanical engineer friend of mine that an engine takes a fuel and produces mechanical power from it while a motor takes one form of power (electrical) and changes it into another form of power (mechanical).

    Water pump change out

For the inside hidden bolt, I use a 14 mm metric 6-point socket. It fits a little bit more snugly and lessens the chance of rounding off the corners.

Center row right looks like what was on our 1950 Ford sedan. Bottom row left was what was on our 1965 Mercury Comet.

1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I bought the side channels for my 34 BB from Steele Rubber Products. They fit and work well. They are probably the same as for your 32. I do not know for sure.

    A Real Rookie question

I like the hand throttle for starting out on a hill. My right foot can stay on the brake while the hand throttle can keep the RPMs up until I can get my foot over on the floor throttle pedal.

    Current Leak?

In my 1934 truck, I had the same type of short. When I would activate the system via the battery cut-off switch, I noticed a very slight jump in the ammeter in the discharge direction. The tail light would come on dimly. Down at the lower left of the engine was a bundle of wires which...

    Fan Hub

One thing to consider is that if there is oil in the hub and you set it down on your workbench, one way or the other, the oil will leak out. I do not remember which way, but I think it is if you set it down with the fan blades up.

Running cooler - does this make sense?

Whenever these types of issues come up, I always revert to the following: Does anyone really think that Henry would have wasted money on extra impeller fins and oversize hoses that were not necessary? My father maintained a large fleet of Ford V-8 construction trucks in the 30's thru 50's and...

    '40 and '41 Pickup

On the 40 door, the plate which gives access to the window mechanism is held on by 5 screws and the 41 and later covers are held by 8 screws. My grandfather had several 41 big trucks and none of them had the steel frames but my 47, (also my grandfathers) has the metal frames around the windows...
