new to this era. Questions about phaetons or sedan convertibles?

l'm new to this era so i'm here to learn. I had a 28 roadster with a flathead and sold it. I have 2 kids and really missed having them with me to cruise around. im toying with the idea of a 4 seater convertible 32-40. Ideally i'd prefer a 2 door car convertible that seats 4. Would that be a...

More banjo questions for the gurus

I’m on the home stretch of my banjo rebuild and everything is going together very well and smooth. My backlash is set and I have my gasket combination figured out. When I pull things back apart to apply some Indian head to the gaskets / housings how much will the sealant effect my tolerances...

    Help with banjo rear

I pulled the bearings from the carrier and the races from the bells. It turns out that the carrier bearings are early banjo 18-4221 original ford stamped. The races are new bearing size. The part number on the race is timken 25522. Obviously a mis-match. Here is what I know now. I have a v8...

    Help with banjo rear

I have photos but I can’t seem to get them loaded from my mobile device. My guess is that it was slapped together but not ran.... like I said I drove it once (didn’t notice the side to side play beforehand) before I pulled it and took it apart. Suppressing how everything inside looks good. Gears...

    Help with banjo rear

I’ve been studying the rebuild guide and some website references and have a pretty general idea. I get the shimming on the bells to change the preload. The issue with mine is less of the minute adjustment of shimming / gaskets at the bells. The entire carrier and axles move 3/8” into and away...

    Help with banjo rear

I pulled the banjo out of my roadster. I drove it once and noticed some pretty loud howel on deceleration. What I know I think it’s a 40’ -The gearing has matched etching from ford that says 3.57 (I counted the teeth and it’s 3.54) the gear faces look really nice. - the spiders seem tight and...

Good banjo rear, ideally 3.54 gearing but let’s chat

Good banjo rear, ideally 3.54 gearing but let’s chat I’m seeing what’s out there before I attempt to rebuild my 40’ rear. 57-58” width. It’s a long shot but ya never know. Nice runner, rebuilt, quick change I suppose if the price were right. Willing to travel 500 miles from Denver to pickup...

Help with a noisy Banjo rear end.

Thank you for the in depth explanation on setup! I did talk to Tim at Berts llast month when I was in. I explained what I was hearing and asked if they could work on it. They mentioned that the later v8 banjo was a tad different than the A’s. Their tech would rather not take it on. I understand...

Help with a noisy Banjo rear end.

I have a 37 or 38 banjo rear in my 28 roadster with a closed drive / 39 trans. Everything is hearsay because i bought this car unfinished. The P.O simply stated that he installed a matched set 3.54 ring and pinion in the rear. The ratio appears correct not that it has anything to do with the...

6.50-16 firestone deluxe champion gum dipped tires

I have a pair of new gum dipped firestone 16”-6.50 tires. I had these mocked up in my model a roadster. I ran them for 150 miles before I made a switch to another wheel package. These are only 2 years old. Always inside and low miles. These are perfect for the traditional look hotrods rat rods...

1935 V8 convirteble sedan engine broken

i would start by checking the oil level. Then change the oil to the proper weight. Run an engine compression check. in that order. i've had a couple flatheads smoke for a few miles until the rings loosen up in the ring land. a compression check will tell you whats going on.
