Spider tabs should be at 6 and 12 which will match slots in switch plate.

need help spider gear at the ewnd of steering colum ee

If it is repro switch housing and bail wire from what I've read from others the fit is not good and just have to keep working the bail wire until it fits/works properly.

    Oil

Thank you guys. I think I will just open the drain a see what comes out as H. L. Chauvin suggested. If it "flows" out I may be alright, if not I guess it's time to drop the pan.

    Oil

Was reading (on MAFCA site) that engine will start to burn more oil and valve problems could occur if changing from non-detergent to detergent? Sure don't need engine issues, so thought it might be best to continue to use what is in there now (but don't know what was being used). With my limited...

    Oil

Is there a way for a simpleton to tell the difference between detergent and non-detergent oil? Would like to know what is now in my A. Thank you, Nick

    engine with oil pan off

Certainly agree with all the other comments. I recently purchased an A, knew nothing about Model As or really any car for that matter, basically went into the whole process blindly. I know from the beginning of my posts up to this point there are those who've read my questions and thought "geez...

    Spider install

Good news is I everything back together, the switch lever at the steering wheel seems to be working in position 4, 5, 6 and 7 o'clock BUT bad news, lights work at 4 (bright), 5 (no lights), 6 (off), 7 (parking--except only one parking light comes on (it worked before)). I've taken the switch...

    Spider install

Have installed a repro spider using existing switch plate and switch body. The tabs on the spider are not engaging the switch plate slots even when tried off the column; and when installed in the column the lever at the steering wheel goes around 360^. Do you think it's because of a repro spider...

    Another about light switch rod

Thanks for the inspirational post Bruce:eek:. Hey Mitch can you PM him and tell him how lame I am :o. Tom, does that mean I have a '29 and not a '28 or maybe the column was replaced at some point? I have wondered if this was really a '29 but the stamp on the firewall says 12-12-28, hmmm. That...

    Another about light switch rod

Obviously want to go the easiest route on trying to change my light switch rod. I have a '28 Coupe, is there a way to lower the column just enough to get rod in and out inside the cab so that the column doesn't have to be completely removed? In the photo couldn't I just remove the bolts from the...

Thank you Tom. I will have to order a spider but will post on here when I get it all back together (fingers crossed). I will also get the tool if you think that will help with the reinstall.

    Steering wheel light switches

Thank you Tom, is there a good method to get the C fitting off without ruining it? Also, once that is off then the spider just drops down and spring is on top of it? Oh, and is the grease you see in the photo normal and will I have to replace any above that area?

    Steering wheel light switches

Good idea. Can the C fitting and spring be salvaged to reuse and would the C fitting fit properly into a new repro spider?
