So, You Want To Go For A Winter Drive

I should add that some of the aftermarket replacement parts on my Model A-such as the brake rods, nuts and bolts, etc-rusted at a truly alarming rate. If you are going to use your car in such a manner, I think the only way would be to powder coat everything that is exposed to the elements. It...

So, You Want To Go For A Winter Drive

I too used my Model A every day, for 15 months or so, in Chicago, through every season. I didn't even have a garage for it. Yes, my car was parked outside, just like it would have been when it was a newer car. This was from 2014-15, and let me tell you, it was a real winter. A huge mount of...

Who still uses a 'stick shift' in their modern vehicle ?

Wow there ARE a lot of us with both Model A's and air cooled VWs. my 31 Model A is a stick of course and I have owned a lot of old VWs over the years and still do. The Cadillac CTS-V I owned previous to my Model A was a manual also (6 speed). My current fleet includes: 1931 Model A (manual)...

    Seat belts ?

I installed seat belts front and rear in my car, but lap belts only. I would love to install 3 point retractables, but it seems to me that the only way to do it so they would actually function in a crash, would be to have a close fitting roll bar made and installed.

Life is too short, use and enjoy your cars

Very good thread, and very true. I am 41 and work long long hours. I have made it a goal this year to cut back and enjoy life more-my five year old son and my cars. I have been a car nut since I was four years old, having grown up with parents who always had interesting cars around. I purchased...

    Driving an "a" in snow..?

I drove mine all last winter and let me tell you, it was a real winter. I got stuck once, had to dig out a little bit, but so did an SUV that tried to make it down the same alley AFTER I made it through.

    Travel plans 1,000miles in a 28 phaeton

I agree with what others have said here. I put about 12,000 miles on my Model A over a year or so , from last year to this year, and it never once left me stranded. I did install an alternator as I came out to a dead battery coming out of a movie with my kids last winter, and my eleven year old...

fix a flat for use with tube tires

I used it last year in my Model A. I got a flat tire, dead of winter, strong blowing snow, with two kids in the car. I would have changed it if I had to on the spot, if I had to, but the fix a flat worked and got us home, where I could do a tube replacement in a warm garage. Definitely does not...

    I Want to Buy a Model A

My 1931 Model A Tudor is also my first Model A, having purchased it a little less than a year and a half ago. What some of the others have said about joining a local club is extremely important. I bought my car and joined a club after a month or two of ownership. The boys and girls in my club...

Was surprised to see this Model A being used to advertise an Auto Wrecking company on the south side of the city!

    A Trip to Chicago????

My vote is for Lou Malnati's also, for pizza. The original is in Lincolnwood, but there are others including in the city. I live in Chicago, not the suburbs, and there are many cool things to do here. You may want to check out the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL. The collection is always changing...

    Time for a new Ford???????????

My understanding is that most American cars up until the 1970s was that, especially if it was from the rust belt, a car with 60-70,000 miles on it was pretty much shot. I am 41 and do remember as a kid, in the mid 1980s, cars with major work being needed, parts falling off, major rust-etc. The...

Daily Driver For Over A Year

Here are a couple. I will put a few more up and see if I can upload the video of a winter drive from my facebook to the Barn, since the phone I used to record it originally was damaged.

Daily Driver For Over A Year

Sorry for the delay in getting back to your responses, all, it got very busy at work! I appreciate the support. I am going to go through the brakes and trans on my car this winter, but do plan on using it as often as possible but not in the salt. If I had restored this car, the frame and...

    I am getting confirmation that I am getting . . . o l d

As stated above, you are only as old as you feel. I'm 41, still like the same things I did as a kid-cars, girls, music, hell I still love to skateboard. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate things that I didn't at a younger age, and you probably won't find me down at the club, but overall I still...
