I installed a Weber on an MG, ran great. The next time it wouldn't rev up or take a load. It seemed like a carb. problem, but it was a failed condenser. Rocketsled

A new look at a very old subject.. Oil.

Back in the 1950's and early 1960's at our Texaco we sold mostly Havoline HD 20W. The old timers used SAE 20 year 'round in Southcoast Mass. When 10W-30 came out, it became an instant best-seller at $.75/qt. Havoline HD sold for $.65 at our station and Texaco HD was $.50. Texaco ND was $.40 and...

Modern low end multi-viscosity oils enable new car makers to achieve the MPG figures required by Gov. In an A, I use SAE 30HD. I would switch to SAE 20 HD if cold weather usage is planned. Old timers who came into our family Texaco in the 1950's used SAE 20 year 'round in southern New England...

    Grease

Actually, they went with a low-bid supplier. There are very few actual grease manufacturers. What you want is a Lithium Complex grease fortified with MoS2 and having either a mineral oil, or synthetic PAO base oil. Rocketsled

    More on J C Whitney

I always got good service and value for J.C.W. My first A was nearly a '29 coupe that belonged to my old neighbor. It was alway garaged and we kids used to play in it, but I missed it by one day. They sold it for $25 and said they would have given it to me if they had known I was interested! So...

    Gas prices

Re: Gas prices 1969 During the summer of 1969 our Texaco station sold Fire Chief gasoline for 29 9/10, and Sky Chief for 31 9/10 cents per gallon. We sold Havoline 10W-30 oil for .$75 per quart at the pumps. In 1961/1962 Texaco switched from 5 quart oil cans to 4 quart size for oil changes, in...

    Slip Plate/Dry Moly Application

Dry Film Moly has a resin binder to hold it in place until it gets worked in, usually on cam followers, latches and slides. It is mostly used for roller chain lubrication that will not attract lint or dust in textile machine applications. Alternately, you could apply Molykote Z Powder on spring...

    Evaluating rear axles

Speedy sleeves have a surface finish which is ideal for seal lips to ride on for long life and effectiveness. As such, they are often applied to new shafts! Fluid migration under the sleeve can be prevented by applying a little threadlocker, or retaining compound.
