Straightening up a couple of Model A's (Advice needed)

I have restored several Model A's and bought one very similar to yours years ago. Even with a complete woodshop and making some other Model A body wood pieces, I sold the Fordor. Even if I bought a complete wood kit (requiring a lot of rework), I knew I could do it but also realized my...

    Using talcum powder with tubes

I used duct tape once. Even though carefully using it, the movement of the tube on turns dislodged it and formed an edge that wore/cut through the tube.

Russian GAZ 66 A deluxe pickup

Since it was a "Deluxe", it came with the stainless passenger shells. Also true for the Town Car Delivery. The pickup supposedly was designed for General Electric. You can Google that though it's been published in a couple of books. As an aside, I knew Vernon Burks as he lived a couple of...

    oil return tube

The two ends are not on the same plane so the likelihood of the shop getting it right is low. So, a leak due to not being flat to the gasket is likely. You can measure that difference (don't remember but around 3/8"). Have your shop use that dimension's spacer and solder.

    Steering arm bent?

Larry is absolutely correct. Have seen this condition on Model A's many times.

    Why does it Lean?

It leans because of possibly 90+ years of fatigue with at least a driver but not always a passenger. One of my A's had this. I measured the frame every foot to see if it had the driver side rail fatigued downward. Was okay so replaced the front spring because it was smaller. No change. Went to...

How to mount a vacuum wiper on a 1931 S/W Fordor

Was told years ago that a Chevy wiper motor looked similar (though not with that collar) but the vacuum port was on the opposite side. Had one on a SW Townsedan I bought mounted upside down relative to an original so the port faced toward the incoming vacuum line.

    Preparing for the end.

Several people I respected discussed this at a National Meet around eight years ago. When the majority came up with a age that was about ten years away, I started selling my near-50 year collection of parts and Model A's. I kept two that my wife didn't want to sell. She thanked me for not...

Fitting a shaft to a distributor

I have encountered odd dimensions and thought to use my expansion reamers. BUT, in the case of a distributor, the only reamer I use is an "alignment" reamer. Just like kingpin bushings, using a regular reamer is likely not going to be in alignment but cocked. You ream both bushings until the...

    1932 Rear Hood Retainer Problem

One of my favorite sites is boltdepot.com. You can get about any diameter and length in various metals. I have used their stainless steel oval heads in trim areas with a little polishing. The neat thing is you can buy, by the piece without the typical 50 or 100 count box. Here is a link for...

    Medal Roof

From where ever, I recall that Ford did not have big-enough presses to stamp car roofs. I "think" 1937 was the first year they made all-steel car bodies.

I have found #12 machine screws at ACE hardware stores in the little specialty drawers.

    1957 Thunderbird Heater Hose Routing

Re-doing my engine compartment. I forgot to mark the heater hoses. Where does the top hose at the firewall/heater box go to? The vacuum actuator on the intake manifold or the front of the engine?

    Four Post Lift Recommendations….

Re: Four Post Lift Recommendations…. My main recommendation is the four post lift should have collars around the posts at the end of the crossbars (not inside the posts). If the lift cants for any reason, it could collapse. This is particularly important if the four posts are not anchored to...

Are most repro parts too small?

It appears that your roadster is a Deluxe. Those only came from the factory with an outside mirror on the post. So, whatever was put on the inside could be anybody's guess. Post #11 is spot-on. BTW, the judging standards state inside mirrors for those cars that came with them are 2 1/2" X 4 1/2"...

    Enclosed trailer

Years ago I bought a 16' enclosed trailer. My Model A fit but there was no extra room. I sold that one and bought a R & R all aluminum 22 foot enclosed trailer. I made sure the door height was okay for a Model A. It has the dovetail so the door was high enough without ordering extra height for...

The color of my truck has a name

When they scan, it compares that color to the nearest color in their library. So, yours picked up a BMW color as the nearest. One time I needed Washington Blue for a roadster I was restoring. The "nearest" color was actually two, a Mercedes blue and Massachusets State Police car blue. How close...
