How do you install the starter, and hold everything together?

    New starter

I have just returned from a local auto-electric shop, and they swapped out the Bendix set-up from my old starter to the new one. I will have it installed tomorrow and I am confident it will all go well. I have a new helper, who can do the jobs, like this one, that are a challenge to an Old Fart...

    New starter

I have received my new starter, from CGFord parts. It is the one with a modern “Bendix” gear to connect to the flywheel, and it is some larger. It includes a small note about having to grind a bit off the casting on the lower side, after removing the starter plate. Has anyone done this? Can you...

    Exhaust leaks to coolant

Many thanks to those who posted help. I am of the opinion that the exhaust leaks came only from: the four head bolts that go only into the centre exhaust line in the block. I therefore set about to change the head gaskets. I found no block cracks. To help seal those four holes, I put...

    Exhaust leaks to coolant

Any thoughts on using Iron Tite for these exhaust leaks? I am thinking of going to only water in the cooling system, as there will be no foaming. I’ll add some antifreeze for lube etc. Cheers, Byron

    Exhaust leaks to coolant

I have not visited the site for some time. My problem. I am getting exhaust gases in my anti freeze. I have tried using Iron Tite but without success. I believe the source is the helicoils that were put in and they allow the gasses to pass. I have replaced the head gaskets and torqued to 60...

Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here

I bought my Pickup in 1959, B/W photo is at my girlfriends house for lunch, and I am wearing my H J Heinz laboratory clothes, in Leamington Ontario. Colour picture, after a 10 year resfeshing. We are still married, and drive "Merlot", during the driving season. Byron W.

8 volt battery in a 6 volt car?

I have had an 8 volt Interstate battery for the last 2 years. My mechanic adjusted the voltage regulator for the increase. It now starts like a 12 volt, and all the lights are some brighter. It is one of the best things I did for my truck. I also removed the wiper motor and cleaned it and...

Junk yards of the '40s '50s

My truck worked all through WW2 for an auto parts store. Then was sold to a farmer, and then to me, for 200 Bucks. Sure makes us appreciate and love them all the more. Cheers, Byron.

    Head gaskets

I was told that the larger holes in the block are to make it easier to remove the casting sand. Then the gaskets smaller holes control the flow to what the engineers wanted. Cheers, Byron.

    Exhaust in coolant

I knew it was a long shot, but I am avoiding the engine pulling route. I presume that it is the radiator that is the weakest link in the cooling system. Has anyone tried to put pressure on the rad, and how high did you go? Thanks again for all your help. Cheers, Byron.

    Exhaust in coolant

Back again looking for help! I still have not pulled the head. My question is how much pressure can I put on my 1935 Ford radiator. Why you may ask? Because i want to add a sealing liquid compound to the cooling system to see if it will fill the possible crack going into the exhaust system To...

    Exhaust in coolant

I know that i am a driveway mechanic, but I have pulled two engines to have them overhauled. No I did not do the actual machining that was required, but i am proficient enough to do many of the jobs that are required for re-assembly. Is there any other way to seal this 1/2 to 3/4" long crack? JB...

    Exhaust in coolant

I had started this thread last October, and had to put off doing anything until this spring, and here I am again. I expect that a fine crack is in the block, going from the number 3 exhaust valve to the top centre bolt. To refresh I have checked the gases in the radiator top tank and it is...
