I found an original rear spreader bar and an Aussie ‘32 phaeton folding rack at the Turlock swap meet in summer so the stuff is out there, however eBay would cast a much broader net.

That is some great information, thank you! Sounds as though the right hand bracket was mainly export then, with some dealers adding the second through scrounging the Ford export parts bins? If I were to do a conversion utilizing original parts both sides would have used the same lighted...

So I've tried to do my research, but Google is chock full of cheapo Chinese parts or stuff about later Fords but no answers to my question... Was the passenger side tail ever original equipment? Was it a dealer add on? Was it offered directly by Ford or always an aftermarket thing?

On the Mercury

Got this with some other parts, first time I've seen anything like it. Is it another accessory? I can't find any literature about it anywhere. It seems like it would clip onto the center windshield bar on my 1948 Mercury and 1941 Ford truck.

Thanks for the great information! I appreciate the replies, I'm absolutely new to flatheads and these trucks. No PTO but it did have a cable operated two speed axle. I've never heard my engine hoist make the noises it did when loading that rearend onto the new owners trailer!

The heads have been changed I think, one is a 59A the other a 81A. I didn't have a 99T tag on the engine but this was on the top timing cover bolt, a tag that said '7619'.

It's definitely an open driveline now, interesting that a 1938 trans would find its way into it. It's got the little lever for a reverse lock out?

It was originally a 1 1/2 ton army truck that farmers shortened for their fruit and nut orchard, when I got it I swapped the massive axles out for a F3 front and a full floating Dana 60. I've been poking around a lot more, I believe the serial starts 99T as other large trucks on the internet...

I found the frame and ****** serials on my big truck project and I'm a bit perplexed. The frame stamp is 99I-31xxxx. It's possible the I is a T because the top slash is a bit wider than the bottom. The ****** serial BB18-442xxxx. I realize the ****** was likely swapped out at some point but...

Does the early shell have the holes deeper for the early insert? I have a pair of later original shells and two different inserts and the insert that has the two piece surround when mounted sits high enough that I can't get an original top trim to mount correctly like the late/late combo...
