    Safe To Drive.....?

Of course it's worth dropping the pan. You've got the time, so fix it. My first post that basically said don't let an oil leak keep you home was made when I thought you wanted to make your trip this weekend. Get under there and fix the problem. These cars are simple and when they were in...

    Safe To Drive.....?

How much is it leaking? Stop and check the oil level every 10 or 15 miles until you know how often to add some and drive your car. You bought it to enjoy, so enjoy it. You might put some oil absorbent pads in a pan to shove under the car when you stop so you don't make a mess. Maybe slide...

Clutch Issue - Need Help Please

I haven't had to do it with a Model A, but my 52 pickup had the disc rusted to the flywheel a couple times. I started it in low gear and got it going down my long driveway a few mph then held in the clutch pedal and bounced my other foot on the throttle pedal a few times to get the old truck...

    I Need A Temperature Guage ???

That was my experience too. The Motometer is useless until the water is almost boiling and rises up in the radiator neck to touch the sensor tip. The vintage gauge in my dad's 29 Tudor read 140 most of the time. Took a few miles and a hill to get it there, but it usually stayed in about the...

    Rubbing

My Coker 21" radials are substantially larger than the multiple brands of bias rags I took off. They rub just a little in a tight turn.

'32 style gas tank on a Model A

Tanks Inc. also has saddle tanks to fit between the running boards and the frame.

    Water Tempature Reading

190 is not overheated. Even plain water is fine up to boiling at 212 degrees. The problems occur when the coolant boils and creates pockets of steam where the metal temperature is momentarily much hotter than the surrounding area which causes unpredictable, uncontrolled and rapid expansion and...

Plate Glass, Briggs or Murray Sedan

Whatever it takes, it's worth it to have safety glass. To me anyway.

California 1935, Wilshire Blvd in color (remastered film)

That looks a heck of a lot better. The terrible colorization and all the dumb horn honking was phony as a Bill Clinton 3 dollar bill. My 2 cents wont buy you much, though.

    Compression test results, opinions please.

Most anyone with even moderate mechanical skills can put rings in a Model A in an afternoon, just do it. Then you'll have a new head gasket and an opportunity to tighten up the bearings a bit too.

Drill and tap a pipe thread hole in the water outlet is probably the best place.

    Temperature Gauge

Here's a good price on a gauge that looks vintage enough for me and has the correct scale for our unpressurized cooling systems...

    Rolling chassis

My idea is that a fellow would be way ahead buying a complete rolling chassis in about any condition rather than gathering up a bunch of unrelated junk and piecing one together. A complete chassis will have all the proper hardware, springs and widgets that you would otherwise have to round up...

    Front wheel bearing grease caps?

I saw on some forum, thought it was this one, that Ford passenger car bearing caps from the early 50's would fit the hubs. I trotted right out in the woods and removed a pair from a junker 52 Customline. As CarlG said, the washer was too large, but not by much. A few seconds at the bench grinder...

    Crank shaft pulley wobbles

I agree with Syncro, if it's been running that way quite a while and it's not loose or leaking, leave it alone. It's only job is to drive a big soft V belt and the belt doesn't care. If the engine has a stock Model A crank, balance is not an issue as nothing is balanced anyway. If the engine...

    Cleaning parts

Being a country boy, I have a big wood stove in my metal fab shop. I soak parts in diesel to dilute/remove the petroleum based adhesive that is bonding the dirt to the parts. A small amount of scraping and scrubbing and the metal is bare. Hadn't thought about using the wife's toothbrush... an...
