Why does engine run best with GAV almost closed

You don't say which carb you have. If it happens to be a "B" carb they are designed to run with the GAV closed after warm-up.

    a Model A poem

"Look Who's Talkin'" by Larry Seemann I walked out into the shop today. After a few minutes I heard "him" say: "Daddy, can we go for a run today?" Who is "he"? You might say. Why, It's Buster - the pickup - The Model A! We all know that cars can't talk you say. Well, neither can dogs, but we...

    Oil level

Like James Rogers I recommend keeping the oil level between F and L. Here's why: When running the valve galley is full of oil. When the engine is shut off the oil drains back to the oil pan and a lot of it drains back through the rear main oil return tube. It's designed that way and is the...

    cross shaft/ motor mount?

As Ian says the Canadian mounts are vastly superior because they are cast steel instead of stamped steel. Not easy to find but well worth it. This 3 part article on motormounts may help also: www.icehouse.net/overland/motormount1.jpg www.icehouse.net/overland/motormount2.jpg...

    Rear axle seal

There is an axle seal inside of the axle housing that is different than the one on the wheel bearing. To change the axle seal you must remove the axle housing and punch out the seal. To install the new seal you'll need a long pipe with special end to push the seal into place.

    Short Pitman steering arm

I think some AA trucks came from the factory with a short arm. Several years ago I found an arm that looked just like an original but about 1.5" shorter. I asked around and someone said it was from an AA. I've been using it ever since - works fine.

    tacomacreme

Les Schwab Tires does an excellent job of blasting and powder coating as foxfire42 mentioned. They have a color they call Fruehauf Yellow that matches the paint chips very well. If you happen to be where they have a store that should work for you. Also, I have used TigerDryLac RAL#1001 without...

    Ampmeter will not 'excite'

I recently had the same problem. I took the alternator to the electrical shop. It took about 2 minutes to determine that the alternator needed repairs. They fixed it the same day for $38.05 including tax and took me half hour to pick it up and 10 minutes to reinstall it. It's been working...

Lil Deuce Coupe or a Hot Rod Lincoln????

I'm aware of the "Grapevine" being in CA. However, the hill that Charlie Ryan actually drove that car on was the Lewiston Grade - cause that's where he lived.

Lil Deuce Coupe or a Hot Rod Lincoln????

I had the fortunate experience of seeing the "Hotrod Lincoln" in person a couple of times a few years ago and even met the singer once. They used to live not far from here in Lewiston Idaho. The "Grapevine Hill" that Charlie talks about in the song is actually the Lewiston Grade. Quite an...
