    Master cylinder woes

Thanks. After consulting an old Motors Manual about these MC’s I figured it was normal. I’m going to inspect the rubber diaphragm that is in the cap to see if that’s the culprit.

The brake lining is like brand new and the shoes are adjusted to just shy of brake drag.

    Master cylinder woes

I fill to about 1/4 to 1/2” below the fill port. I was gently pushing the brake pedal by hand and watching what happens inside the MC. At the begining of the stroke, I see a column of fluid shoot up from the small (most aft) hole in the bottom of the MC. Even with the MC about 1/2 full I still...

    Master cylinder woes

The master cylinder on my 46 Ford truck is leaking brake fluid out of the vent on the cap. The MC is a repop I installed about two years ago and it just started doing this. The brake pedal is firm.

    Switch to silicon brake fluid?

I’m sticking with the dot 4 and be more proactive in bleeding the system. My original wheel cylinders cleaned up nicely so will re-install them vice the offshore cylinders with the steel pucks. Thank you all for your advice!

    Switch to silicon brake fluid?

Thank you all for your words of wisdom as it is very much appreciated. I think I’ll stick with the dot 4 fluid and bleed the system more often. On a related note, my replacement wheel cylinders (china) have steel pucks in them instead of aluminum like the originals had. Any downside?

    Switch to silicon brake fluid?

Thanks for relating your experience tubman. I’ve heard the conversion to dot 5 can be a challenge. How did you heat it?

    Switch to silicon brake fluid?

I have a 46 Ford 1.5 ton dump truck. I’m getting tired of dealing with corrosion in the brake wheel cylinders with DOT 4 brake fluid. I would like any opinions from those that have switched to DOT 5 silicon fluid. Are you happy with the conversion? How did you flush the old fluid out? I live in...

Big Truck 2 Speed Rear Axle Parts

I know a mechanical linkage or converting to electric would be feasible. However, that’s not what is correct for this truck. If at all possible I’d like to make it correct. A vacuum 2-speed would be just to-damn-cool. In my humble opinion of course.

Big Truck 2 Speed Rear Axle Parts

Good question! I may need one in the near future. I saw a NOS one on the web a while ago and the guy wanted crazy money for it.

    Big Truck Brake Master Cylind

Hello, I have a 46 Ford 1.5 ton dump truck and I need to replace the master cylinder. Does anyone have a manufacturer’s (Dorman, Wagner, etc) part number for the correct one for my truck? My local NAPA couldn’t find a part # for it. As I understand it, the big trucks MC has a larger bore than...

    46 1.5 ton fan replacement

I’ll remove the genny and give it a try. Not looking forward to laying over the fenders and lifting that thing out.

    46 1.5 ton fan replacement

I could use some guidance on swapping the 4 blade fan for the 6 blade on my truck with the v8 engine. Would there be enough room to wiggle the fan out after removing the genny? Also, should I use some blue loctitie on the bolts that hold the fan to the hub? Thanks for any guidance offered.

1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Not sure if Gar Wood manufactured boats but he did race them using Ford FH V8's. Chris, You may want to use an engine stand that supports both the front and back of your engine. Not sure if the in-line engines are the same, but supporting a v8 from the rear only can result in a broken casting...
