Thanks for the picture. Looks like I may have put the cross member in backwards. It looks, from your picture, that the lip should be in the back and the the flat side is forward where the metal angle iron piece goes. I'll see if I can turn it around without too much trouble.

I'm having a very difficult time nailing the sheet metal onto new wood. I'm using 3d 1 1/8" nails and am bending 6 or 7 nails for every one I am able to get in straight. Is there a better nail?

Could it be some means of tightening the center main without removing the cap? I see lots of funky accessory stuff for Model Ts but haven't seen it on Model As. Have you removed the center main and seen if the babbitt is tight in the cap? Darrel
