    Marvel Mystery Oil alternatives

I'm not 100% sure. The fellow I got it from said that he was able to turn it by hand. The few attempts that I have made I wasnt able to. I need to pick up a breaker bar and give it a go. I'm in the middle of moving, so sadly my garaged is all packed up, so it may be a few weeks before I have a...

    Marvel Mystery Oil alternatives

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've checked out a few Wally marts and Crappy tires here in Alberta and couldn't seem to locate it. Also, Amazon won't ship MMO to Canada, since that was one of the first things i've tried. Maybe I'll be more diligent with my searching. I seem to get fed up in my...

    Marvel Mystery Oil alternatives

Hey guys, Just looking for a little direction on some alternatives for MMO. I'm working on getting the ol' flatty going and looking for something as well rounded as MMO. Everyone recommends it highly but being Canadian, its impossible to find up here. Any ideas? Thanks, S

    Washing in engine bay

Thanks guys for all the suggestions! I have a gravel spot out back where I can get it all nice and clean. Just waiting for it to pop above freezing. Only bad thing about Canada; Its so damn cold. Great looking Merc! Thats the image I keep in mind while working on mine while mumbling 'one day' Ha.

    Washing in engine bay

Hey guys, Just wondering if it would be wise to wash inside the engine bay? I have yet to start working on the engine since its 30+ year sit. Theres about half an inch of cake on various spots on the engine. I guess what would be the best way to clean this off? May seem like a stupid question...

    '47 Merc trunk latch

That's great, thanks! Car still has the back doors jammed and quite the amount of mouse droppings in her. Waiting for a warm day to pull it out to give it a good sweep. Doesn't roll with a darn, spun the back wheels when it was lifted and it seems to have a sticky spot. Rolls fine until, where...

    '47 Merc trunk latch

Hey guys, Quick, and may be stupid, question. The trunk handle is missing its lock cylinder and thus of course wont open with the turn of the handle. Is there a better way to get it open than to go through the backseat? I tried sticking a flathead in there to see if i could jimmy it open...but...

Bringing 47 Merc back to life

Wow, that seems almost TOO simple. I have seen that video countless times, which gives me even more inspiration to get mine going. I have a few concerns, I saw that the muffler is housing a nice little mouse nest. Any chance those little guys crawled up into the manifold? Would it be worth...

Bringing 47 Merc back to life

Thanks for the welcome! I'm slowly trying to get my profile in order. (having issues uploading pictures here at work, internet is spotty at the best of times...) Haven't tried to turn it over yet, but the fellow I bought it off of said he manually turned the engine to see if it was stuck or not...

Bringing 47 Merc back to life

Hey guys, This will sort of be an open ended question, but first a little back story. Just acquired a 1947 Mercury Eight. Parked in a garage in the 60s and that is where its sat until today. No rust, perfect little resto job for my spare time. However, after some research, I'm not too sure on...

    1947 Mercury Question

There is movement, I can hear a mechanism moving, but stops before it feels like it catches anything. Much like todays child locks. Same thing for both sides. Maybe it'll just take taking it apart to figure it all out.

    1947 Mercury Question

Hey guys, Might seem like a stupid question, but does anyone know how to unlock the rear suicide doors? Both of them seem to be locked, even the inside handle wont open the doors. Seems like it may be something simple but I couldnt find anything. Thanks guys, S
