1930 Model A Closed Cab Pickup

1930 Closed Cab pickup restored for touring. 12 Volt conversion. Mitchel Overdrive. Runs well but underpowered for highway so I ordered a HC head. Comes with a Snyder 6:1 high compression head and new wiring harness. Neither have been installed. I ran out of time to complete the final...

Drag Link to Pitman Grease Seal 1930 Sport Coupe

Finished installing a new shortened Pitman arm and decided to replace the rubber grease seal. Once all was back together, there is significant space at the rear end of the seal and the drag link opening. Is this normal or was there a different seal originally.

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

Thanks to all for suggestions and ideas. I have about a 20 mile round trip into town, and have to drive 45 mph for much of it to keep the other drivers from running up my tailpipe. Now running distilled water with water wetter. Increased GAV to half a turn. Checked the plugs and found more...

    poor idle driving me nuttier

I would suggest a vacuum gauge: http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/vacuumtune.htm It is only $15.99 on Amazon. It may not tell you the exact problem, but will allow you to eliminate a number of possible problems. I had a similar issue twice with engines that I did not know. The first time, my...

    Help..Drivers Door Latch 30 ccpu

Thanks, Tom. I had looked at your post and thought the spring needed to go inside, but it was really difficult to fit. Once inside, it jammed the latch and the latch did not work. Now that I know where it is supposed to go, I think it is just a matter of getting everything aligned properly...

    Help..Drivers Door Latch 30 ccpu

I bought a new door latch from Snyders. Where does the square end on the latch return spring go? Inside the door or just left the way it is and tighten the screws. It seems to cause the latch to bind either way. Are there some adjustments I need to make to the latch? Thanks,

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

Update on Engine overheating. I flushed the system and refilled with 2 gallons of evapo-rust and half a gallon of distilled water. Idled it until hot then shut it down. Drove it about the neighborhood for 20 minutes, and let it sit over night.Took another drive to the store and then shut it...

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

Thanks to all. I have been driving Model A's on and off for 60 years, and never heard one boil inside the engine when it shut down when it still had water. It is not because my hearing is better now. Maybe it was because I had too many other things to do when I was 16 and did not stand and...

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

I must have used the wrong words. There are no thermostats...only thermometers. One on the dash and one one the motometer,

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

I don't have thermostats. The model A never had them to start. Jack

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

I always understood that the engine ran cooler with advanced spark. I with this engine, it runs smoothest when it is advanced.

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

I flushed the cooling system with an oxalic acid flush, water was bright green on draining. A fair amount of sludge also came out. Used the sodium bicarbonate neutralizer and drained again. Water was black with a fair amount of sludge. Flushed the radiator. Filled the system with water and...

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

The truck was set up for touring and I have two thermometers..a motometer on the radiator cap and a temperature probe in the gooseneck. Both are pretty close on the temperature reading. I will leave the water level as is and see if the puking stops. Thanks,

    Temperature Rises after shutdown

I have been working on getting the 30 CCPU more reliable. It only was driven 1000 miles since 2002. I have 250 miles in two weeks. It idles nicely, and runs at 45 to 55 mph very well. Outside temperature about 95, after a 20 minute run at 45 to 50 mph, spark fully advanced, the temperature...

    Steering Wheel removal

I don't know. It is from a late 31 assembled in Manitoba Canada. It spent a lot of it's final years as part of a chicken coop, exposed to weather. If it were soybean, I think it would be more deteriorated.

    Steering Wheel removal

Steering wheel is off. No damage and an original wheel to restore. The Snyder puller was great and the suggestion by Marshal to put a 3/4" bolt in the steering worked like a charm. Given the amount of pressure required (actually bent the puller a little), the shaft would have definitely been...

    Steering Wheel removal

Thanks, Marshall. I have wanted an original steering wheel for my Sport Coupe for a long time because I want it to be as original as possible. This wheel is great with only some weathering on the back. I ordered a Snyder’s puller. Jack

    Steering Wheel removal

What is the next step. Steering wheel has no cracks and the tube is in good shape. I would be willing to sacrifice the steering shaft if necessary to avoid damage to the wheel and tube.

    Zero compression #3 Cylinder

Thanks, I agree. "Fiddling" to me means to recheck the timing because I had to loosen the distributor set screw to get rid of a noise per Les Andrews suggestions. I used a repo distributor body. I have a good original that I will test to see if it makes a difference with the idle. I have a...

    Zero compression #3 Cylinder

The engine all came together yesterday. Torqued the head studs using the sequence suggested by Brumfield for my High Compression head. 20 ft lbs to start, 40 ft lbs second time, 60 ft lbs third time, and then reversed the sequence at 60 ft lbs. Started the engine and let it heat for 45...
