    Steel 1929 cowl band

I first thought mine was steel also so I tried to polish it up and .... oops, what is that yellow stuff coming through? Sure enough, it is brass way down inside! Since mine was dented up pretty bad and they are very hard to find in good condition, I chose to fill in the dents and paint over...

    What was an "improved road"

And we can not forget the plank road that crossed the Algadones sand dunes in southern California. My dad told me of travelling across that in the 20's before the paved road was built later that decade. We have come a long way in building roads for our wheels!

    What was an "improved road"

I am sure that in 1903 an "improved" road referred to a macadam road or similar. A macadam at that time consisted of graded, broken rock placed in layers to properly drain moisture and distribute the load from the carriage wheels (horseless or otherwise). The surface was typically compacted...

    Loose screw in bell housing

I wanted to update this thread with my latest success. I tried the magnet trick using the only magnets I had around. I first tried an old AlNiCo magnet from a coin vending machine but it was too big and ran into the housing. Then I went down to Radio Shack and bought some ceramic magnets but...

    Loose screw in bell housing

Wow, that is impressive. Quite a collection of junk. I know mine only has the one screw and lock washer. I just hope mine is resting quietly on the bottom where I can pick it up with a magnet. I don't want to drive it until I get the thing out!

    Loose screw in bell housing

Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I will do the magnet on the flywheel trick later this week. Looks so easy and I have some strong magnets that should work good. The video was especially helpful Bob, thanks.

    Loose screw in bell housing

Thanks, I will try that. I do remember seeing some recently but I don't remember seeing any 'how to' advise. I will do search. I installed a new original and kept the old one for a spare (with new bolts and lock tabs installed). I remember reading several threads about the modern type that...

    Loose screw in bell housing

Well, my original Bendix threw a bolt and it is now at the bottom of the bell housing. It has for the most part laid there quietly but recently I have had a few loud clunks that sounded like it was beginning to travel around in there. I need to get it out before it does damage to the flywheel...

    Painting maroom garnish/dash

Josh, I was in on that thread awhile back. It was started January 28. Search for "Town Sedan window moulding". Here is the procedure I used and listed in that thread. Thanks. I think I remember how I did it. 1. Spray on primer 2. Spray on Burgundy color enamel (I used Ace Premium enamel)...

    Pinstripe Using 3M Scotchcal Tape

There you go .... I never considered that! I would like to try pinstriping by hand on my car trailer I just got so will keep that in mind. Might be worth a try. That is interesting about Henry and the pinstripers. Is is really true? BTW your pinstriping you did on your car is beautiful...

    Pinstripe Using 3M Scotchcal Tape

I seriously considered doing the pinstriping myself - getting the right brush and practice, practice, practice, but decided to try the tape and was very pleased. The key I think is removing the tape very soon after applying the paint so that the edge rounds. I do not think it is awful looking...

    28 Briggs Fordor

Well I asked my friend about his front seat since he did not drive it to the picnic and to my surprise he said he had a tudor. My mistake. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you (had to find the old thread). Hope you can figure it out. Good luck!

    Pinstripe Using 3M Scotchcal Tape

I got mine at TCP Global ... http://www.tcpglobal.com/pinstriperdepot/psdfinesse.aspx They also have paint, brushes and whatever else you may need. I did not have any luck locally but I live in a very small town. You could also do your curves by using 3M fine line tape. It is flexible and...

    Pinstripe Using 3M Scotchcal Tape

I used the Finesse on my town sedan and think it really looks nice. The important point is to remove the tape right away before it dries so that the edge rounds over and is not so sharp. As for the gas tank design, I tried a couple of times but could not get a good curve on the corners. The...

    28 Briggs Fordor

If your seat is not adjustable then it seems that it should be attached to a metal riser. I assume you have the backrest? I would think that it would be the same only the TS is attached to two sliders. I have a friend that has a 28 Fordoor that I will see probably this next Sunday. I will...

    28 Briggs Fordor

Here is the springs frame that I rebuilt for mine based on the actual old wood frame. This is for a TS but they should be the same. Also, it is an adjustable seat. Pictures of your seat would help. If this shoe looks like it will fit I can remove it take the dimensions/pattern for you. Let me...

    Sticking float valve

Twice now my float valve has stuck open and when I turn on the gas it pours out the carborator intake. It is usually after sitting for awhile and no, I do not run the carborator dry when I park it. I did do that the first time it stuck so now do not. As I remember I have a pin seat float...

One thrilled 90-year old - sad news

I am sure several of you will remember my story of finding the last owner of my Model A Town Sedan ("One thrilled 90-year old" thread). His name was Oliver William Johnson, he lived in Etna, California, and last drove it in 1970. I wrote that thread on January 15 after I had last talked to him...

    7 Tooth Steering

I have the same problem with my steering. It is a bit nerving when I drive through town with cars parked along the road. I probably have a 7-inch play. I have gone through all the steering linkage to make sure all was properly tight and have now come down tot he steering box. Plan on tearing...
