On 30s cars, is there supposed to be rubber between the hood edge and the top of the engine side panels? To protect the paint on top edge of side panel.

1938 Ford. I glued the rubber covers to the top of the board and that went well. The rubber makes a 90 degree to fit over the rear edge. Where the board will be bolted to the rear fender. To match the rubber to the board creates a fold of rubber. I'm interested to know how other have dealt with...
