good question, but I learned over the years. It’s the dipstick tube that determines the amount of oil by the length of the stick going down into the pan easy to overlook this done it myself.

try running it with the cap loose or off i’ve seen some engines do this and found it had a blown head gasket good luck

I agree with NEWC if you say you have no spark put a jumper wire from a good source to the coil stud I take it this engine still has a crab distributor down on the front of the engine if it starts then you need to trace the power source back to the ignition switch

it doesn’t have hydraulic brake adjusters just the wheel cylinders were installed but it still has the excentric adjustment screws and lock nuts

My 50 did almost the same thing what I found was generator was charging but not enough rebuild the generator and brought the voltage up to I believe it was @ 7 volts at 1500 rpm problem solved good luck

My little trick was to bust out the old defueser with a small doll and then I painted the new bulbs with a red krylon because my dash is red and turned out great still 6 volt

the numbers are on the top of the case that bolts to the front housing right behind the adj. bolt i could see it on the one picture you sent but it was upside down and couldn’t get my pewter to lock in to see it but if you have it working by cleaning the terminal great easy fix

back in my day working for the cadillac dealer i rebuilt lots and lots of those alt.the amp number is stamped where the adj. bolt is it will read like 63 A. or 85 A and the other numbers will give you what your looking for hope this helps

when i worked for the local cadillac dealer we repaired pretty much all the small leaking gas tanks in shop we had a very large soldering iron it had a copper tip on it about 2 inches wide you would have to plug it in about 15 minutes before it got hot but we’d prep the tank and acid core solder...

on my 50 when engaging it would chatter something terrible and also i could feel a vibration and if i kept pushing the clutch in and out while driving it would eventually get better i had that clutch apart 3 times before the fellow at the machine shop figured it out the first time i took it...

i had a similar problem with my50 cpe. after pulling it apart couple times i found the flywheel was shaped like a bowl i took it to a machine shop that machined it on a milling machine came out perfect problems solved hope this helps

Thanks for the info i’m going to suggest to this fellow that a good 6 volt system will work just fine like it did in its day i didn’t no if the coils could take the extra voltage on my 50 cpe i re did the whole system under the hood and used the proper size cables and never had a problem again...
