Is Arcing shoes necessary for brake job?

Thank you fellas for confirming what my mechanic had said about the high spots wearing down the more I brake. Good to see there are still honest ones around. I do like the chalk idea and will try that next time though I do feel that arcing should be performed when installing new shoes and drums.

Is Arcing shoes necessary for brake job?

I recently had a brake job done here in California on my 1930 Town Sedan at a local shop. They turned my front drums as they were out of round but did not arc the used shoes to the newly turned drum . The car stops well with no pull either way after applying the brakes. After jacking up the car...

    Squeaking Gas Tank Remedy?

After what I thought was squeaking coming from my floorboards in my 1930 Town Sedan actually turns out to be originating from my dashboard or gas tank area. Does anyone have some suggestions to solve this bird chatter? Thanks in advance.

    Squeaking Floorboard Remedy?

My 1930 Town Sedan sounds like birds in a cage as I drive down the road, especially when I travel over bumps. This noise is coming from the floorboards. I know there is a fabric strip around the edges of these boards to keep them snug and eliminate the heat but boy do they make noise. Does...

    Checking for frozen shocks?

Kevin, when you say the wheel will not move, do you mean the shock itself? The shaft on the left side shock is pointing up while the shaft on the right side shock is parallel to the ground. I have the dog ear connectors that the shaft is connected to on the rear end. Thanks.

    Checking for frozen shocks?

Once I disconect the shock arm and put a wrench to the square shank what do I do next and what do I look for? Just to see if it moves?

    Checking for frozen shocks?

I am going to be inspecting the shocks on my 1930 Town Sedan to see if they are frozen or funtioning properly. How does one do this? Do I have to remove the shocks from the frame or is there some way to test them while they are on the car to see if they are frozen? Thanks. JIM

What oil in '32 ****** w/'39 syncromesh gears?

I own a 1930 Briggs Town Sedan with a '32 transmission with '39 syncromesh gears. Can someone tell me what type of oil I should be using in the gear box? I have read all the forums but cannot come up with a definitive answer. I have read the 600w (which I understand is actually 145-250 weight)...

    Are oversized valves really needed?

Im rebuilding my 1930 Town Sedan motor and am adding a few upgrades such as high compression head, V8 clutch and weighted and balanced crankshaft. I know some install oversized valves and adjustable lifters but is this really necessary? Will I get more horsepower with this addition? What type of...

What constitutes a good Touring Motor?

Since my Model A engine block is cracked beyond repair, I am fashioning a new block and want to build a touring motor. I intend to put in a balanced and weighed crank, oversize valves, high compression head, a touring cam and a v8 clutch. I am having a hard time deciding whether to pressurize...

    Smoking Engine!

Well it turns out that I had a crack in the block in the water jacket and steam was coming out the side of the engine. After pulling the engine it was determined that at least three cracks had been repaired in the block. This engine block is no good and I will be looking for a new block and...

    Smoking Engine!

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas. It turns out my radiator was almost completely dry. It was missing 2 gallons of water and that is what caused the engine to overheat. I have a pressurized Brassworks radiator and the 4lb. pressure cap was letting water steam out underneath the car without...

    Smoking Engine!

I was driving my '30 Town Sedan yesterday and my wife and I noticed an unusual metalic/burn smell. Thinking nothing of it we continued driving and we began to hear a lot of clicking or rattling noise. It was not a knocking but more like a click, click click-almost like a lawnmower. We were...

Where to get black touch up paint?

There has been a lot of discussion about how to paint a Model A but does one know where to get black touch up paint? I own a 1930 Town Sedan and on a tour a fellow club member bumped my front fender and took some paint off. No need to repaint the whole fender, just touch it up a bit. I assume...

    Screwing in Bud Vase Brackets

I am about to place my bud vase brackets in my 1930 Briggs Town Sedan. Does anyone have a way to attatch the brackets between the quarter and rear windows slightly after the curve in the body? I know that fiberboard is pretty thin so it might not hold the screws for long. Is there another way to...

Squealing Leakless Water Pump or Clutch?

Dave I took your suggestion and had someone depress the clutch but the pulley stayed true. The squealing problem was attributed to the new alternator bracket. I lathered it up with some grease, re-assembled and the noise went away.

Squealing Leakless Water Pump or Clutch?

Thanks fellas for some great suggestions. I'm definitely going to check that front motor mount, my pump housing for obstructions and see if my belt is seating properly.
