I also size the rod big end and polish on all NOS 21A /91A rods to the same specs as most all are not correct to my liking then I fit the floaters. I will correct size of rod again if needed to get the bearing clearance I desire.

Personally I much prefer the 21A or 91A rods over Scat rods in any flathead that is not blown or a race engine as they are plenty strong and much lighter than the Scat rods. Way less expensive also. The floater bearings used with the 21A/91A rods are also very good and when set up correctly...

Just a suggestion but a piece of PVC tubing dipped into the barrel all way to bottom like a straw block end and pull out to check for water in bottom of barrel as that would be a real mess.

There is a cam grinder in CA that will grind the 8CM Merc specs but with more lift (.380"). I have one of these grinds for a 59AB. Not possible in my opinion Tim. Would love to see all timing numbers.

Brian is correct. Use the bearings originally designed for that particular block no matter what crankshaft.

The hole is only in Canadian blocks like Aussie and New Zealand got. It’s not in US blocks.
