    40 ford wiper transmissions

Thanks for the replies and the pictures, yes, I did check Drakes website and it said not available. I'll use what I have this summer to fill the hole and put the car on the road and hope Drake restocks them, or I find something that can be chromed. The car is going to be a driver not a...

    40 ford wiper transmissions

I hope someone can verify if the 40 ford wiper transmission towers are interchangeable between the closed car and the open car. I know the linkage is different but can the chrome towers from the convertible be used on the closed car? I have a pair of closed car transmissions that the linkage is...

    ‘47 Lockheed rear brake?

Re: ‘47 Lockheed rear brake? The picture of the backing plates are not 47 they are 39-45 with the removeable bolts and camed brass washers that adjust the shoes at the bottom. 1947 backing plates had a fixed stud that also used a brass washer that was not adjustable and had 2 flat spots where...

Borg warner overdrive for 40 ford

As 38 coupe has mentioned you will have to fabricate a lot of parts. Replacement rails and transmission mount, also clutch linkage. I have a 48 Lincoln v12 with the overdrive mounted in my 40 Ford coupe project I'm working on. The transmission has a torque tube driveshaft that needed to be...

    water direction

It may have an air lock in the heater core. If your vintage air unit has the pipes one above the other coming thru the firewall, connect the head hose to the bottom outlet on the heater, and the top hose of the heater to the lower radiator hose.

Original 1940 fuel sender new tank

Another thing I forgot to mention is the baffle inside the tank will interfere with the swing of the original sender float arm, it will hit the baffle and give a false reading, so you could run out of gas when the gauge shows about half a tank. So even an adaptor will not solve that issue. It...

Original 1940 fuel sender new tank

I got a tank from Tank's INC. and had the same problem. It has two holes in the top of the tank a 5 screw hole and a 6 screw hole. The 5 screw hole I couldn't even get the float for the sender in it. The 6 screw hole, has the fuel pickup and return tubes mounting plate in it, the bolt holes...

    40 ford Original 10in flywheel

Another thing to keep in mind is the flywheel can't be removed without removing the oil pan, unless you have the truck two piece oil pan on your motor, or if you have an 8ba with the removable bellhousing. The 9" clutch as was said was stock on a 40 motor and works just fine. So, before you buy...

Did you use Teflon tape when you installed your sender? If so, remove it you are isolating the temperature unit from grounding to the head.

1940 Coupe Body to Frame Attachment Points

Hi Mikey, sounds like you are making progress on your coupe. The subrails, wheel wells, and floor all come together and form a pinch weld seam, I use 1/8" sheetmetal screws to hold everything together in the areas where I will be plug welding, this way you can fit it all and adjust it before you...

1940 Coupe Body to Frame Attachment Points

Yes, the quarters weld to the sub-rails between the B-pillar and the rear outrigger, there should be a 90 degree lip on the bottom of the sub-rail to weld the quarter to, then you will have to make a small patch to weld in the gap where the sub-rail starts to curve up and the quarter goes...

1940 Coupe Body to Frame Attachment Points

All bolts for the body to frame go thru the top of the frame rails, and the top of the x-member rails, no bolts in the wheel wells of the quarters to the side of the frame. And the trunk floor is spot welded to the quarters in the wheel wells, from the bottom of tool tray forward to the point...

    39 Brake Questions.

I have a pair of 36 drums that are 3 ribbed just like the one on the left in the first picture in post # 4, and a friend told me that the drum and hubs are 2 pieces and can be removed from the hubs and used on the 39 hubs. Is that true? He told me he did it years ago when he couldn't find good...

    wheel balance

The tires on my HD springer are bias ply tires and tubes, it is a little tuff to install the beads thru the valve stem and sometimes you may need a little more with some tires having heavy spots. I only buy Dunlap tires and HD tubes, and reuse the tube in the new tires, I change my own tires on...
