I run resistor plugs in my 34 and it seems to help.

Do not put to long a bolt in that hole as it is a blind hole and you can punch out the bottom in to the water jacket and get a leak Bolt 20420 S 7/16-14 X1 3/16 Ford made there own bolts so often not common sizes.

I have found that nothing makes the job of installing the distributor as easy as using two studs to align the gasket and distributor. Turn the rotor and and when the tang aligns the distributor will slid back tight to the block, put in the third bolt to hold it in place remove the studs install...

V8's Never had shims.!

For best results use new old stock lamps as the repro ones do not have the correct filament alignment to focus the beam.

Do not forget the U joint with that corn head grease.

One of the benefits of modern oils is the detergents that keep dirt in suspension until removed by the filter. But with no filter I would run non detergent oil and change more often.
