Get or borrow a good boroscope and look into the cylinder. Scratches and grooves will be obvious.
BTW how much air is blowing out the oil fill when engine is running?
I forgot to put the plug stop to hold the oil pump when installing new gaskets, the pump came down with the oil pan. Looked at the pump, inspected it, put it back up with the plug stop thing, timing was fine.
50? My engine sounds like it’s going to grenade itself at that speed. 45 is my sweet spot, and I never take it on the freeway, never drive it at night either, not worth the risk.
40 Deluxe, the OP narrowed it down to a valve that won’t operate properly under running conditions. Possible broken valve spring or sticking valve in the guide.
I’m Glad some you cheap guys aren’t trying to get into aviation! My day job is aviation, looking at some of these prices of model A parts and engines are dirt cheap compared to overpriced airplane stuff! You can buy a brand new Model A engine or an overhauled one for 1/8th or less the price of...
Yeah, I’d pull all 4 plugs, have someone turn it over with the starter and carefully with a leather glove feel if theres any compression. Or use an auto compression gauge tool to be safe. I bet the exhaust valve is sticky.
Does anyone have the exact colors for the 1929 New Mexico passenger car license plate?
I googled the colors but I read cream background with red letters, but I need the shades of cream and red.
I found a original plate but it’s painted obviously by an amateur and wrong colors.
Would like to...
I run Walmart Super Tech oil, cheap and a major name brand makes it and it’s the same oil. They did a independent test comparison on it a whole back and they came out suprized it beat some other big name brands…funny.

Takes two minutes to remove the sparkplugs, might as well check the plug gaps while your feeler gage tool set is out at that point.
With the plugs out the engine is so easy to turn even if you use the fan belt to turn it.
BTW , you can legally mail a potato through the USPS by writing a...
Same thing on aviation small orders, what ever happened to just putting it in one of those small thick tan envelopes and slapping a couple of stamps on it?
Weird, with the pan off I could see and feel the ends of the holes, especially the one on the right side, in fact there was a glob of sludge I brushed off. But anyhoo it has definitely fixed my weep around the bolt heads issue I had.
A good tip that is glossed over unless you read very carefully is written in that really good article. And told to me by experts on this forum is to clean the thread holes and bolts and lightly apply permatex black gasket maker to the bolt threads for the 4 front bolts of the oil pan. Actually...
It’s quicker and more thorough draining from the plug, and just as easy. Throw an old blanket to lay on. Now changing oil on a modern Mini Cooper is another story.
Anyone dump a little gas down the oil fill neck to help wash off the dipper tray and help drain out sludge build up?
