My Signal-Stat FN 221, (flasher,) arrived yesterday. Today I will install it. Now I will be able to do away with the accessory turn signal switch. That switch came in handy at the time, but it crowded the wiper and headlight switch.
what I did with my pipe was hack saw it in 2, not in the middle but more on the driver's side. then piece flexible tube over as much of the crossover as possible (clamp each end.) The gaskets are at Oreilly's, and some of that exhaust tape and putty will finish the job. In all honestly, I would...
I read here that setting the amps gauge, or just getting a bit more amps, needs special equipment. But shouldn't my dashboard amps gauge able to deflect and show me that any adjustment I make are good ones? Also, I have a nice Fluke volt/ohms meter. Thanks. Friday now. I readjusted the ARM for...
I think the regulator number is R-141. When I look that up nothing comes up. The only information on the regulator body is made in USA and positive ground. Similar Borg Warner units are priced higher on e-bay. Too bad that the original unit flutters a bit. All 3 of my spares flutter but work...
A couple of days ago I found this Borg Warner regulator in my basement. These pictures will show that it has screw adjustments and that excited me so I mounted it right up. I got in the Mercury and put the key in, hit the button and when it started the amps gauge did not flutter one little bit...
I learned yesterday that, yes, temperature is the boss when it comes to the regulator. Off went the plastic bowl, and on went the original cover. Thanks everyone.
I was checking out my voltage regulator because I have Sunday off and I'm spending it with my Mercury. The amps gauge has a kind of a flicker to it and while trying to find out why I noticed that with the cover off the amps gauge works great. When I put the cover on the volts drops almost a half...
Yesterday I installed a great generator end plate that I was working on and making it a thing of beauty. This end plate though, I used to explore and become familiar with. I introduce everyone to my "felt wick."
I come on here to this site on my home computer before work on a used car lot. Much of my day at work on the car lot is spent planning what I'll do next to my Mercury or what I'm presently doing to my Mercury. I'm flattered that someone does their skill to pictures, because I grew up building a...
I am finished installing a new bushing and the end plate is sitting on my kitchen stove. The bushing has Liquid Wrench thin oil soaking into it and on my next day off I’ll use it. I did not drill a hole from the oil port through the bushing wall.
Yesterday I replaced my rear generator bushing. I had already purchased a nice end plate to keep my '53 Monterey on the road, but by replacing the bushing I would have a spare. I broke a hack saw blade so that the cutting part went all the way to the end and sawed the side wall in two. Then...
10-30 non detergent and add zinc is what I do. I went to the store at 8am today and it was 6 below. Cranked a little slower but started, and I sat and kept it running till the chill was gone.
The end cap was the easy part. I could do it by braille. Pulling the front pulley off the generator to renew the bearing took some tact. Plus, it was cold in Michigan today.
I'm off work today so I am going to work on my '53 Monterey. This end cap has a nice bushing and the one on there now does not. The oil port is of a different style and I hope that this does not signal "won't fit!". this one has the ball bearing and my original has the tiny cap that swings shut...
