    Spluttering Flathead Help

That is a tool I do not have. I've still got the standard distributor with points so can try the pulling plugs method, although it doesn't sound like it's running on less than 8 cylinders. I've done a compression check, and all the cylinders were pretty close together, I think 90 was the...

Thanks Bob. Yes I have one of these (we call it a multi-meter in the UK).

    Spluttering Flathead Help

Thanks Glen. I've been using the Vanpelt specs in terms of set-up which suggests 2°. Why do you suggest 4° to 7°? Using a Lucas DCB703C as a condenser which is 0.23 micofarad which I believe is within spec per the Vanpelt site above. Not sure what you mean by VOM?

    Spluttering Flathead Help

Thanks for the pointers Kurt, I'll try your spark check. Unsure on the type of sparkplug wires, they looks reasonably new though. It's got an 'auto choke' on the Holley 885 carb, not a manual one. Gas flow out of the pump is ok as it goes via a glass bowl filter so can see it's keeping up.

    Spluttering Flathead Help

Afternoon Flatheader's, I'm after some advice on my 8CM. It idles fine, but when you get on the gas it starts to splutter. The engine is stock, with an electric fuel pump. So far we've checked/replaced: - Changed condenser - Changed vacuum diaphragm in vacuum advance - Set timing at 2° at...

    Offenhauser Heads 375/400/425

Thanks! If I wanted to go to 275ci or 284ci in the future would the 400's still be ok, or would compression be too high? You didn't mention the 376's, is that because compression is too high on aerc flathead?

    Offenhauser Heads 375/400/425

Hi All, Looking for some advice on upgrading my currently standard 8CM Flathead. I'd like to get some Offenhauser cylinder heads, and have seen they come in 400/425 new, or sometimes some older 375s come up. What would be best for a stock 8CM engine? I've got hold of the Flathead compression...

    Carburator Mercury 255 Flathead

Thanks Sal, I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a part number. It looks like Mike is out of stock. I saw you recommended 'Carburetor Collectibles Speciality' on eBay on another post. Is this the correct kit (I can't post the link as I'm too new). 'Holley 885FF 2 BBL Carburetor Kit...

    Carburator Mercury 255 Flathead

@scicala Sal, I'm looking for a rebuild kit for my Holley 885 on my '50 Merc. I'm based in the UK so unfortunately cannot send away to someone for a rebuild. Mike's Carburetor Parts lists two different rebuild kits for the 885, either a straight 885 (P/N K7128) or 885FFG (P/N K7127). I've...
