    Ammeter never shows charging

It could very well be wired wrong, and might've always been. I like Charlie's suggestion as a way to check it, and if it fails I'll trace wires in the junction box.

    Ammeter never shows charging

My ammeter never shows charging. I've had the car about 14 years and it's always been like this, and until recently I assumed that's right but now I'm not so sure. It has a generator with a modern diode replacement cutout. When I put on the lights or the brakes it shows -10 or so like you'd...

    Excess oil....???!!!???

i agree you might want to try lowering the oil level. Also, check for seepage around the base of the oil fill pipe. It's only a press fit and if that pipe is loose at all, oil can get blown out thru that crack and it's hard to tell that it's not coming from the top.

    How many are left?

Strange as it may sound, I doubt everyone could agree on exactly what counts as a "Model A". One approach is you could go strictly by registrations, so if the owner calls it a Model A and the state agrees it's a Model A, it must be one. But, there are many cars registered as Model A's that no...

    1930 Town Sedan production

My 1930 Murray TS has the original body tag number M604-25447 where M604 is their designation for a TS body and 25447 is the serial number. It is clearly an early 1930 car. Unfortunately, it does not have the original engine and I don't know the chassis number, so I'm not sure how useful this...

    Old husband's tales

He said "dad had a spare rotor" so there was a rotor used in the setup. Only the top cap was gone not the entire distributor body, so the setup described is possible. With the dissy body intact, you can fashion 4 more pieces of wire to act as spark plug wires, in place of the usual metal strips.

    Old husband's tales

I get it. Picture the distributor with the top cap off. The piece of wood must be something narrow like a popsicle stick, running across the top, between the two clips that hold down the cap. It will cross over the rotor in the center. With some shaping and notching of the wood, the clips for...

    APPLE GREEN Wheel UPDATE

I don't know if your apple green is exactly as the original color, but I think it is a much nicer green and I think you will be happier with it in the long run. Given a choice between the two, without knowing anything more about them I think I would have chosen that apple green shade. It just...

    Fuel gauge float question

If you are going to remove the gauge for any reason, it's a good time to replace and/or clean everything. The repair is dangerous enough to do the first time, so there's no sense reusing old gaskets and find out you have to do the job over again if they get damaged and leak.

    Jet sizes

This is pure speculation, but perhaps something to think about. I know one of the distinguishing characteristics of Canadian Model A's is the use of Robertson screws, which were not used on US cars due to Robertson's refusal to licence their use in the US. Is it possible the difference between...

    Jet sizes

The only thing I can think of is they are adjusting it for service in generally colder weather. A Canadian Model A is more likely to see below-freezing conditions for longer periods than a United States Model A, and is unlikely to ever be driven in the kinds of heat found in Southern US. This...

    Fuel gauge float question

I've got the aluminum tools and they perform adequately. They required me to push tight to keep them from popping off while tightening, but I don't know if the steel ones grip better. My car is an early 80's resto and the parts unscrewed easily. If yours has not been taken apart for many...

    Question for Fordbarn concerning Ebay.

I think what happens on Ebay should stay on Ebay. If anyone has a problem with an Ebay seller they should use the proper channels to address it. There are lots of reasons deals go south there and some of them have nothing to do with the seller. Postings here will give only one side of the...

    Setting Generator Charging Rate

I had to replace my generator due to a squealing bearing. I installed a newly rebuilt from Bratton's so I trust that it's good. No adjustment has been made yet for charging rate, and I do understand how the third brush works. I am just a little confused about the rate to set it to and under...

    Splash Pan Functional Purposes?

The splash pans are there in case you drop a small part while working on the engine. They direct said part to the most inconvenient spot in the exact geographical center under the car, requiring you to climb under the car each time you drop a part in order to retrieve it. This is amazingly...

    carb idle question

Make sure you follow all the steps in the correct order. a) Is the engine completely warmed up to running temperature? b) Is the GAV turned completely to the right? c) Is the spark fully retarded? d) Did you adjust the idle speed on the throttle arm until it was just about ready to die? If...

    New Info on Model A

I've also read how the Model A engine is capable of running on various alternate fuels. Has anyone ever tested an engine using them and measured the actual performance?

    The pinstriping is done

Absolutely beautiful job. I love the color and I think it complements the body color wonderfully. If any purists say it's the wrong color, or painted wrong, just ignore them. Your car will be one of the prettiest Model A's at any meet.
