    Battery leaking

Order a battery from your nearest A/C Delco distributor. It will not leak or vent acid. I've sold hundreds of batteries from various suppliers. I can tell you that Delco makes the best ones. It's the only brand I never have to warranty. Batteries are inherently going to be an easy to fail...

    Cars bogs after 45 mph.

Start with the very basics. Retarded ignition timing will cause your car to bog under load. Make sure your points are set right as well.

Electric Fuel Pump Problems is it Bad Gas

In my opinion Carter makes the best fuel pumps. Make sure you are using a pump designed for carburetors. Also make sure you use a filter. Mount your pump as low and close to the tank as possible. Additionally make sure that you are using at least 14 guage wire or larger with good connections. A...

    BATT meter question.

This wire is your power source to all your vehicle systems off of the battery. Additionally all power from your generator going back into recharging your battery goes through this wire. This means bigger wire is better to carry the load. Use the same gauge wire as was on before. If you use a...

    BATT meter question.

On another note. An ammeter really is a better indication of what you charging system is doing. You just need to understand what it is telling you. It can tell you the state of charge of your battery, and how much load you are pulling. A voltmeter simply tells you voltage.

    BATT meter question.

There is nothing that can cause your meter to get hot. It uses an inductive loop. Any time electricity runs through a wire you create a magnetic field. The more current going through the wire the stronger the field. The loop that wraps around your wire on the back of your gauge picks up this...

Just out of curiosity Ken, what do you charge someone for a job like that?

    Let There Be Light!

A month ago I had to repair a problem on the high voltage electrical system on a Honda Insight Hybrid... The next week I went to work on the wiring on my '46 truck. That old 6 volt wiring isn't too confusing after working on the Honda!

Tutorial: How to make a wiring harness that will outlast your grandchildren

Thanks Bruce. That reminds me of something also that I wanted to elaborate on about the "K-Mart" style in terminals and why they won't hold up. When copper is exposed to air it oxidizes. Anywhere copper is exposed to air for long periods of time will eventually corrode away. These insulated...

Tutorial: How to make a wiring harness that will outlast your grandchildren

Thanks for the compliments. I do like that wire. The main reason I didn't use a wire like that was the time to ship and cost. I missed driving my truck and wanted to get it back on the road quickly without worrying about the electrical system giving me grief.

Tutorial: How to make a wiring harness that will outlast your grandchildren

Hello All. I have received a lot of help in working on my old truck from members here. I own an auto repair shop for newer vehicles, and I do a lot of professional modern wiring repairs. I have decided to take the time to post this wiring harness tutorial to help others who may find this task...

    Car Show Crash

I'm glad that's not my car! These images are a good reminder though of the safety of our old cars. Notice the heavy metal of the pontiac was destroyed while the light weight Lexus had little damage in comparison. When we are driving our old cars around(especially with young family members on...

Most condensers are all pretty much the same thing. If you can find one that fits in the spot it should work.

    6 cylinder "G" Engine valves.

I found a youtube video for doing valves on a V8. That helped a lot. It doesn't sound too rough now that I know what I'm getting in to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8iGXa9H294

    6 cylinder "G" Engine valves.

Thanks Ken. I'm trying to visualize the set up here. I am a certified mechanic/shop owner, but I work on newer cars. I also sublet out most of my internal engine work to machine shops so this is not something I am too experienced in. I think this is the first car I've owned older than 1990...

    6 cylinder "G" Engine valves.

Engine is missing on #4. I looked down the spark plug hole and I can see the burned valve. My question is on the replacement process. Can I just take the head and that valve cover off and slip in a new valve? The engine runs well otherwise. What tool do I need to release the valve from the...

    Fabricating spark plug wires

Yup. Worked great. Brendan, Yes resistance wires were developed for radio static. Not really an issue to me because my truck doesn't have a radio. The reason I went with resistance wires was because I had a box of resistance wire, boots, and ends that were on the shelf of my shop when I...

V-Belt help for my '46 Ford Truck

I had the same problem for a long time on my 46 1-1/2 ton. Dual matched belts. I couldn't get matches anywhere, and I tried the tractor stores. I finally found a guy in New Jersey who specialized in parts for 1 ton and over trucks. I'm sure the belts are the same though. The business was "Half...
