    Overheating in parade - Thoughts??

OLD182, You are correct in that a thermostadt does not help keep the engine cooler. It is there so the engine warms up faster and stays above a certain temperature so that it runs more efficiently and the gas air mixture combusts properly. The original set up on the Ford Model T does not use a...

    Overheating in parade - Thoughts??

Earle, My '31 Slant Windshield 4 Door Sedan idles the best and the engine runs the coolest in parades when I have the timing lever all the way down. Maybe it's just my particular Model A but I only have the lever all the way up to start the engine then it's lever all the way down for the rest of...

Best and easiest way to mount new tires what's your all's opinion?

It usually helps to set the tires out in the sunlight for a while to get the material warm as it helps to stretch a tiny bit.

    WaterPump End-Play

Gary, The set screw should stay in place without any modification to the shaft.

    WaterPump End-Play

Bruce, If your Model A is a "driver" and not placed in judging competitions the collar can be placed on the shaft next to the packing nut and that way the fan hub does not need to be modified. I use a leather water pump grease cover on my long haul Model A and the collar has worked well in that...

    WaterPump End-Play

I wrote an article 18 years ago in "The Restorer" (May/Jun'92) issue about installing the water pump shaft collar. I was working out in the barn on a Model A water pump at the time and had just seen the locking collars in a W.W.Graingers catalog the night before and came up with the idea just...

    For vapor lock nonbelievers

I wonder if anyone with the late Zenith carburetor set up, the one with the side bowl screen filter, has had this problem?

    Odd spare tire lock?

I wonder if there is some way to find out how many different keys were made for these locks or if there is a way to see what would fit your lock? My lock pictured above is in fact made by "T & A" yet curiously I have an exact duplicate lock on my Model T spare tire and it was made by the...

Winged Boyce Motometer for a T

    split rims

Are you sure it's really broke? I've seen some lugs ovaled out on purpose or a slit sawn through so that a bent egg shaped rim can be fit to a round wheel. Probably not the smartest thing to do but back in the day folks did what they had to, to keep rolling! :)

    Trailer

When you go and look at 2 competitors trailers you might find that one is 200-300 dollars cheaper yet at a quick glance they appear to be very similiar. Be careful. The cheaper trailer might well have untreated deck wood vs treated wood, used axles scavenged from wrecked or very old trailers...

    Trailer

Many years ago I loaded my late '31, 4 door slant windshield 4 door (160-A) sedan on a single axle 14 foot trailer and had no room to balance the unit at all. The rear fenders, rear spare tire and luggage rack hung out past the rear end of the trailer and it looked like I had loaded an elephant...

Balancing A Two Blade Aluminum Repro Fan

Ok, But can anyone answer my question as to where is the best area to grind/shave metal off on the heavy side? I am familiar with balancing lawn mower blades and do so 4-6 times a year but no one cares what a lawn mower blade looks like and the grinding off of metal is a no brainer but on a fan...

Balancing A Two Blade Aluminum Repro Fan

When balancing one of the repro aluminum 2 blade fans is there a proper place on the heavy blade to remove some of the weight? I understand one process using a spare pump shaft and the two razor blades to balance the shaft on but are there any more pertinant tips to the process? Thanks...
