My 1940 coupe, what's behind the seat?

I would suggest that you take a look at some of the aftermarket vendors such as Dennis Carpenter. Here is a link to his truck floor: http://dennis-carpenter.com/trunk-floor-pan-wtool-tray-40-inch/p/01A-7711215/?green=A674BDE0-63F9-5DF8-B177-BC341D3AC534 I recently bought my first 40 coupe...

    Stolen Car/ Trailer Alert-Albuquerque

I just saw an ad on TV yesterday for a GPS tracking device for your pet. It is so small that it attaches to the pet's collar and is able to be tracked via an app on your smart phone. The tracking device costs around $79 and there is a monthly fee for the tracking service. I am sure that there...

    32 tudor fenderwell repair?

I am not sure how skilled you are at metal work but a number of years ago I took a workshop with Ron Covell and he demonstrated a technique to shape metal using a wooden buck...the technique is known as hammerforming. It may be worth your time to look into some YouTube videos on the subject and...

    '40 door panels

As has been noted, the panel board is damaged and the upholstery will never look right until the underlying board is either repaired or replaced. If you are dead set on keeping the original board then you may look into a resin infusion process whereby the board is soaked with urethane resin...

    Paint over Old Chrome Plating????

I have used a variety of 2K/epoxy DTM primers over the years but I have found the Advantage 325 to be one of the best for adhesion and sandability http://www.advantagerefinishproducts.com/primer-surfacers/325-high-build-2k-direct-to-metal-primer-gray-2-1-voc I rate how well a primer performs by...

Wow that is interesting...I didn't realize that the seal was actually recessed in between the layers of glass.

    glass

Thanks guys, learned something new today. So is it acceptable to use black enamel as 19Fordy suggests or is there some sort of glyptal (http://www.glyptal.com/products/1209tech.pdf) or other coating that is more appropriate?

    glass

Maybe I am showing my ignorance but why would you want to seal the edge of laminated glass? I am assuming that the edge to be sealed is exposed, would sealing edges that are fit into a rubber seal improve anything? Thanks...

    40 Ford Raffle

Understand the rationale but there is another side to the discussion...if the raffle were open-ended, how many folks would have bought tickets? I bought mine because I knew that there would be a reasonable chance of winning. I don't buy lotto tickets because the odds are so outrageous that it...

Dilbert on Restoring Old Cars (and other garbage)

Many years ago when I was working my way up the food chain I had been promoted to Branch Head of a group of engineers and techs. My boss was the division head and his boss was the Technical Director (TD). I worked more for the TD than my director so it wasn't surprising to see him give me...

Dilbert on Restoring Old Cars (and other garbage)

I too am an engineer and proud of it. There is an art to the profession, an ability to think outside the box to transform requirements into an elegant solution. Since this is a Dilbert thread I offer this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmYDgncMhXw

    A thing of beauty...Tailgate letters

The width of the inner panel is 42 inches. From a purely artistic standpoint the "rule of thirds" works well...I recommended to the owner that he make the letters 13 inches wide which would leave equal spacing on each side. He went with that size lettering to reduce the weight of the tailgate...

    A thing of beauty...Tailgate letters

I did. That photo was taken after I sprayed the base coat and before the clear coat. The tailgate is a Mar-K flat piece, I had a sheet of 16 ga steel waterjetted to cut out the script and then used panel adhesive to bond it. 2 wks and a few very sore fingers later I had the step in the panel...

    A thing of beauty...Tailgate letters

I like the painted script, I really adds a nice touch to the tailgate. Here is one I did for a customer for his 55...he liked the script but he didn't take my advice to keep it small.
