    Ampmeter not charging

Thanks for those great suggestions. It is an original style generator and the car only gets driven about once a year (I'm bad) so the connections is also a great suggestion. Thanks!

    Ampmeter not charging

I'm a novice. Original 6 volt model A system with generator. The ampmeter won't show a charge when running/driving the car. It does show discharge when I use the horn. Any likely causes? I replaced the cutout. Thanks!

    WD40 through spark plug hole???

Thanks for the thoughts. I like the idea of having something that is aerosolized so that it get's back to all of the valves.

    WD40 through spark plug hole???

Hi all, Life got in the way of running the model A for the last 12 months and with winter, I won't start it again until spring. What do you think of taking a spark plug out and spraying a little WD40 towards the valves to keep them from sticking over a long period of time???

    Mouse repellant

DeCon has been great for me. 30 years in drafty garage and storage units and no mouse damage!

    Removing dents from headlight bucket

There is a great article in Volume 2, How to Restore your Model A: I've done headlights, cowl strip, and radiator shell and found wooden dowels work well. Buy a couple feet of 3/8 inch dowel and cut into about 6 inch pieces. Round over the end and tap out dents from the inside. I used a piece...

    Car died will not start

Same issue for me was a bad switch. It worked fine and then next time I tried to start it, the problem was traced back to a bad switch. Replace it and it was good to go.

    Clutch problem

Is your idle just too fast? After starting, are you pushing the throttle lever up all the way on the steering column? It won't shift if you're idling fast. Sorry if you already know/tried this.

I've used an awl- carefully prying out the packing so that I didn't scratch the inner brass surface.

    No spark at distributor

Finally worked my way back to the switch. When I jumped the two wires at the stitch, I finally got spark at the points. I guess I'll be buying a new switch this winter and waiting for warmer weather to install! Thanks for all of the good advice.

    No spark at distributor

Thanks all. I got back to it today and I think I just have a bad switch that isn't consistent. I had good voltage at coil, to ignition switch and eventually back to ignition cable. Screwed it into distributor and had voltage at the points swing arm. This is all with the ignition panel...

    No spark at distributor

Thanks Mitch! Work and daylight savings keeps me working on it only on the weekend (It's at a storage unit with no lights). I'll keep working at it but I may try you if I take an afternoon off to work on it before the snow flies here. I very much appreciate the offer!!

    No spark at distributor

Thanks- I had the dash hanging loose and still saw the same problem. I just can't seem to narrow it down to the location of the short or other problem.

    No spark at distributor

I am frustrated on this one. With switch off, I have voltage from starter to both sides of coil. Ampmeter discharges when I try the horn. Took distributor plates (top and bottom) out to look for shorts and didn't see any issues. Replaced the wire from switch to distributor, thinking it might...

    No spark at distributor

Thanks for the additional ideas and the drawing! I haven't had a chance to get back to the storage unit to check the lower plate wire grounding out. I wish I was retired and had more than an hour or so at a time to work on the cars :)

    No spark at distributor

Thanks for the input and diagram. There was no spark and 0.4 volts with points open. I cleaned the connections at the terminal box, and adjusted the cable into the bottom of the distributor. I then had spark and 6 volts with points open. Car started and I ran it several minutes but the...

    No spark at distributor

I've got the newer distributor plate too but I guess there could be a short there. Headed to garage to check it again.

    No spark at distributor

Thanks. I'll try these ideas. It's odd. It started yesterday. I ran it for 5-10 minutes and shut it off. Then it wouldn't run again.
