    Starter problems?

Thanks for the replies. I have tried cranking it by hand, but it was very hard for me to turn the crank. I have never cranked one before so I don't know how much resistance I should experience as I turn it. I also put the transmission in third year and pushed it forward with no positive results...

    Starter problems?

Thanks for the suggestions. I did try to crank by hand, but I could hardly turn the crank! I'll loosen the starter tomorrow, rock the car in third, and if that doesn't work I'll order a new switch. Does a new switch come with the screws and gasket, or should I order them also. When I removed the...

    Starter problems?

My 29 Tudor has been starting fine until yesterday. I started it, ran it for a while, turned it off, tried to start it again, and absolutely nothing. I checked the battery and I have 6.24 volts both at the battery and at the starter. I removed the starter switch, cleaned the contact button etc...

Any opinions on American Collectors Insurance?

I also have USAA and they directed me to American Collectors. Their rates seem very reasonable to me. I have not had any need to file a claim, so I don't know how quickly they settle claims.

    Hinge pins?

I have recently removed the top hinge pins on my29 Tudor. I first ground the top and bottom of the pins so that I had flat surfaces. I then found the center of the pin, and used a 12inch long by 3/8 inch wide drill bit and drilled down from the top about 3/4 of an inch. I then used a punch on...

Anyone tried the Lucas-recommended mix of 80W-90 and Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer?

I have not used it yet, but I have purchased them from NAPA, will mix it and put it in the transmission and differential of my 29 Tudor this week. I'll reply again as soon as I drive it

    Tire Pressure

It is my understanding that the brand of the tire will dictate the tire pressure. When I bought my 29 Tudor it had new tires and I noticed the tube valve stem was projecting from one wheel on an angle. I read that some of the lower priced tires requires 55 psi. to prevent this. That is what I...

    Need help with steering

King bee Yes, I read that the steering box takes 600 wt. oil, but the steering box on my car has a zerk fitting on the top. Wow! I just looked at the drawing of the 7 tooth steering box in the snyder's catalog, and it shows an oil fill plug in the location of the grease fitting on my car! There...

    Need help with steering

I got to drive my 29Tudor today for the first time. It was very difficult to keep it within my lane. Before I drove it, I put the front end on jack stands, greased every fitting I could see, including the steering box. I held the top and bottom of each wheel and tried to shake it. Very little...

    Fan removal

Again I say thanks. I worked on it today, put it back on the motor and cannot start the car because I am waiting for a new sediment bulb gasket which is on its way, along with other parts, from Snyder's. I do not anticipate any problems. Next I will attempt to install a speedometer cable. There...

    Fan removal

I thank each of you for Your suggestions. As you can probably tell, this is my first model A and I have a lot to learn! I have a four blade metal fan integrated with the pulley. Yes, I am going to replace the shaft with a stainless steel. I purchased the rebuild kit from Snyder's and did not...

    Need help with cooling system

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I really appreciate each of you taking the time to help a novice "newby", and I will proceed with your suggestions. I know I am really going to enjoy this hobby, but I also suspect my checkbook will receive more use! I am also getting comfortable...

    Need help with cooling system

As you can probably tell, I am new to this forum. I purchased a 1929 Model A Tudor last Monday. This is my first Model A and I am excited about it. It was drivable, but I live 50 miles from where I purchased it so I had it delivered to my home on a wrecker. I noticed when I drove it, before I...
