I am looking for a good running 289 or 302 Ford engine. Anywhere from mid 60's to early 90's. Going to convert to carburetor anyway. I would like to be able to hear run. 1940 Ford coupe trunk hinge springs

Is it best to change the whole hinge arms and springs or just replace the coil spring? I have read a few of the horror stories how sometimes replacing the whole unit the trunk sticks up or they bind. I know the complete unit is about $150.00. How hard is it to just replace the spring? I see it...

    40 Ford drop axle

I found some white walls on evilbay at a decent price. ($480.00) Not real wide as they are just a hair over 1 1/2". Less then half the price of the wider ones. I think it brightened thing a little. Not a great pic as it is still stuffed in the shop.

    Car seized up

I have also seen brake hoses go bad. Fluid moves one way but can not release.. Old hoses come apart on the inside and after a few applications the wheel locks up then after it sets awhile it slowly releases. Next time you drive feel for a hot drum/wheel after driving and applying brakes a few times.

    40 Ford drop axle

Yes you did. I only dropped 1 1/8 beyond stock so my drag link is good as is. Even the tie rod was good as was. I will double check that though when I drive the car and put on the lift. Car sets pretty good. About 25 1/2 from ground to fender lip. I would sure like to put on some white walls but...

    40 Ford drop axle

Does the drag link and tie rod generally end up below the wishbone after a axle drop. Only did equivalent to probably a 3.25 drop. 1 1/8 beyond stock.

2 Bolt distributor initial timing aid

Yes.. If you have access to a machine that's nice. But you still have to get the initial set up as glennpm shows. This tool makes it so things so can't get away from you accidently. Anyone with some mechanical skill can get a 59 flathead running and starting well and not using a machine. I would...

2 Bolt distributor initial timing aid

I know that. This is for after you install new points and do the initial timing set up. I have done it the old school way measuring from the bolt hole. This looks like it can make it just a little easier.

2 Bolt distributor initial timing aid

I see this piece was advertised by the Hot Rod Workshop a couple years ago. Looks like it could be a helpful tool as opposed to screwing with rulers etc. Doed anyone know where a person could find one? I can't seem to find any contact info. to purchase one.

    40 vs 39

Ford had it going on in the 30's. Just like 34 Ford was a refined 33. 40 was a refined 39. 39 had floor shift banjo wheel tilt out windshield and so on. As hot rodders in the day we took parts from the 39 and switched to our 40's to make as we wanted. Like floor shift. Back then Ford came out...

6v canister style coils. do they exist?

If you are trying to use a Stromberg E-Fire I tried one about 4 years ago and nothing bur trouble. First one from Summit and the car would barely run. When it started it backfired popped and wouldn't go above idle. I even pulled my carbs. off and rebuilt them again. I finally put my old Mallory...

    2x2’s again- power valve questions

Re: 2x2’s again- power valve questions I'm sure you have seen my posts. As mentioned be sure the seating surface on the power valve is smooth. No slightly raised portion on it. My 2 cents worth here. I played with my carbs. this last weekend. I have either a 5.5 or 6.5 pv in the rear carb. I...

    2x2 on 8BA flathead

The load-o-matic distributor wasn't a great distributor even in it's day. Then when you start making changes to intakes and carbs. it makes things even worst. I have not upgraded my distributor as of yet but this motor runs fantastic. great throttle response no hesitation and the exhaust don't...
