The 53 has a 3.54 I drove it with the Fordomatic shifting very poorly and slipping! The C4 is Ok at 55 0r 60, but turns the stock 239 pretty hard at interstate speeds. I do not have a tach on it so I cant tell you what it is turning.

I have a c4 in my 53, You need another gear! FMX has an overdrive and will mount the same. If you can mount the c4 you can mount the FMX.

I am an amateur at lock picking, I was able to pick original ignition on my 51 and 53. The door lock on my 51 F1was so simple it scared me two strokes with the pick tool and it was open!

Question for Ross and the F1 Guys. I am assembling my front sheet metal, as I tore it apart over a year ago I don't remember which way the brackets mount. The brackets will mount either way, which way does the C shaped channel face front or back? Thanks Tony

I have one with the Sherman auxiliary trans in it, It is overdrive, direct and under drive. The only bad thing is the pto is controlled by trans speed. You don't want to put the mower in gear in O.D. Boy it will sing to you then!

If it starts charging after another Rev Up as you are driving, something is wrong with it. If it does not, the internal regulator has probably sensed battery at full charge. Hook up a temp volt meter see what voltage looks like in battery. Mine does that in My 53 and my 51 no problems with...

I have a set of helper coils that came on the back of my 51 F1, mounted just like that looks almost factory. Coil fits over the rubber bumper stop on the frame.

I have one in my neighborhood, looks like the front bumper is dragging the ground! He opened the hood to show me the engine compartment, steering is all cobbled up motor on a weird angle. I am sure a good mechanic could do a much better swap but it is still a lot of weight on that old front end!

I had the same problem as Ross, I had an aluminum y yoke mount for alt. changed to steel and it cured it.

Richard My Grandson bought one from Harbor Freight, I tested it against my Snap On ½" it was spot on. I am not so sure of durability. Tony

You are right Bruce, mine had the external spring and round cast iron weight.

I bought a very expensive Mustang wheel center cap that was painted, I sharpened a popsicle stick and scraped it off. Not easy but it worked.
