    Wrist pin dilemma

I have been tracking a high pitched knock that I thought was a rod bearing. I dropped the pan and adjusted rods but they were all 2-3 thousandths. I adjusted them all to 1.5 - 2 thousandths and replaced pan. Still had knock plus massive oil leak so I pulled engine. Surprised to see...

Broke rear main casting, is it repairable?

Thanks for the clarification James! I will take care of the repair tomorrow and I'll watch for the picture. This poses a couple more questions... If I need a groove, can I add it myself and if so, what do I carve/cut it with? Finally, after the groove is cut, will it leave a rough surface on the...

Broke rear main casting, is it repairable?

Ok, thanks. I will spot weld on each side of the pipe at the flange to get the best seal possible and I will reinstall the cap. The Babbitt still looks good to me and I think this engine has upwards of 10,000 miles on it!

Broke rear main casting, is it repairable?

Won't it leak oil into the valley where the cork goes? Or are you saying to weld it all the way around and file the valley back out?

Broke rear main casting, is it repairable?

Another question...is the Babbitt supposed to be grooved on the cap? I can see the block side is grooved, can I cut my own groove or should I leave it as is?

Broke rear main casting, is it repairable?

In my ignorance I may have bumped the tube and it broke tha bearing casting in front of the cork gasket valley. Now the tube is loose. Do I need a new bearing or can I jb weld it or try to braze??? The bearing is like new yet and I hate to have to buy a brand new bearing . I'll try to load a...

    Starting Difficulty

Try cleaning substance with clean fresh has...non-ethanol. If it cleans up with gas, set up a "temporary tank" that is known to be clean. Run your engine on that tank for awhile in the driveway and vary the speed occasionally. Recheck for black goo. Remove the spark arrest or screen from your...

good idea to go back to engine builder. If you followed their breaking recommendations and still have problems, maybe it is something they can cover by warranty? I also agree that it could very well be a sticky valve!!

Do a compression test...and post results. If you can start engine, run it at idle until warmed up, than repeat compression test and post results. Also, Check your oil to make sure you have no water/coolant mixed in. Another thing to look at is make sure you have a good seal between manifolds and...

    1931 Tudor sedan

I have for sale a 1931 Tudor sedan. i purchased it a few months ago to help out a friend. This is a nice looking car and I've driven it a few hundred miles with no issues except the rod bearings need to be adjusted. For some reason the previous owner installed rear side windows with no...

When starting, did you turn the GAV counterclockwise 1/2 to 1 turn and close it back to about 1/4 turn open when started? Try that first. It also sounds like there might be a sticky intake valve. Perhaps one of the engine guys can chime in and shed more light. You said you just finished...

New Owner Million Questions:Distributor gear alignment

Just drop it in. Than You'lll have to line up the pin in the front cover with the dimple on the cam gear and make sure #1 is at TDC on compression stroke, then set timing with distributor cam lobe / points. Do a search on timing on this forum for good direction.
