    valve spring shim installation theory

I installed an Isky cam in my 53 with 50 lbs spring pressure. The engine runs rough at 3000rpm and above. I discovered Isky recommends 85 lbs for this cam and suspect it could be the problem. Any thoughts?

More on using foil to set bearing clearances

Measure the foil you are using for setting bearing clearances. The standard Reynolds in our kitchen measures .005". I used two layers under teh bearing cap to set bearing clearances.

31 Model A Manfold Heater, which one?

I finally installed an Autolite heater and it keeps us plenty warm. I added an cable control mounted on the steering column to the firewall opening cover in order to adjust the heat. It is easier than bending over to reach the cover under the dash.

Measurement for hole mount 29 coupe tail light

Mike, I looked for a measurement when installing the tail lights on a 29 coupe and found a lot of variance. I looked at and measured multiple cars at shows and meets and found the measurements from the bottom of the fender to the bottom of the bodies, the bottom of the fender to the tail light...

    Sealer for Installing Top material

Urethane windshield sealant works well. Warm it up a little and it can be dispensed from a calking gun fairly easily. It is both and adhesive and sealant and is black in color.

    model a heater

I installed an Autolite manifold heater in a 29 coupe and find it provides more heat than needed. I installed an control cable from heater vent door to the steering column to easily control and change the setting. This works well.

    gas vapor/percolation improvement

The A and I suffered last season with gas vaporization issues on hot days in traffic and at long stop lights that caused rough running and one forced stop to cool down before continuing. This spring I removed the radiator and sent it to a shop for cleaning ( no overheat problems, it would run to...

    Engine Pans- vibration source?

Barry - I cannot recall the size of the grommets which look like smaller versions of the grommet for the speedometer cable hole in the firewall. I purchased them at a local hardware store.

    Engine Pans- vibration source?

I installed rubber grommets sized to the pan holes that fasten to the frame. Hole modification was not necessary. The bolts were installed with self locking nuts to allow only slight tightening to avoid squeezing the grommets much and not loosen up. I believe this helped reduce the...

    Cleaning Black Walls??

Try old fashioned boot polish sold in a flat round tin. It covers well and does not shine on the tires any more than new rubber.

    Clutch vibration and chatter

I just completed a clutch replacement Saturday because of chatter. The disc was unused but old with it was installed during restoration. It had a slight chatter initially and worsened quickly. I had the flywheel machined, replaced the disc with new and the pressure plate with a rebuilt and it...

    Balancing wheels and tires

I balanced the wheels in a front hub using stick on weights also. Like Jon in his earlier post I was able to reach a point where 1/4 oz would make a difference. I found one front hub assembly was off almost a half an ounce by itself.
