    Hood Lock

Would like to lock my hood when on travel, but don't want pins in the hood or a chain/lock hanging down. Anyone with a 55/56 car come up with an attractive & practical solution?

Thanks much for that info. That looks good, so good that I just ordered from Dave! (But with only the 1 1/2" drop).

Wilwood Front Brake Kit - Anybody Used It?

Here is a link to the kit, which appears to fit many 1954 to 1956 models. http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdFront.aspx?itemno=140-12922&year=1955&make=Ford&model=Fairlane&option=Tudor%2c+Fordor+Coupe%2c+Convertible+%26+Wagon

Dangerous Moment Caught on Camera... 55 Ford on Jackstands

The word of caution is good. Had a neighbor in 2015 die/crushed changing blades on his riding lawn mower when a jack slipped. Had a wife and two teen age kids. Doesn't take but one mistake and doesn't take much.

56 rear quarter window upper guide felt

Ranger9903 - if you find something that works, would appreciate your posting. I just replaced the lower "fuzzies", but like yourself have not found replacements for the upper on the quarter window. And, of course, 55 and 56 take the same parts.

Dot 4 or Dot 5 brake fluid?

Last year a friend made the switch and had nothing but trouble. I had been considering it and did extensive research before just doing it. I found that, basically the comments of Y-Blockhead are right-on. When silicone came out, it was the new greatest thing. Then the drawbacks and issues...

    Steering box rebuild question

The worm gear is pressed on to the steering shaft and would require special equipment to remove the gear and install a new one. You can buy a new shaft with the gear on it, as well as the other rebuild parts - which I did. There is also a "pin" in the steering box of about 1/4" dia. steel...

Anyone know of an East Coast Y-Block builder?

"any suggestions on other stuff to replace while I'm doing this?" Consider the radiator, since you are already going to have it out. Expect that you are looking for trouble-free cruising. A problem here can ruin a day and possibly create a tow charge.

Where is No. 1 on the distributor?

I think you identified the problem precisely. I now have it running, with #1 in the position shown on the diagram Ronnie provided (via web site ref) for #4. So it is way off factory spec. This engine was in the car when I bought it and it has been rebuilt. So the builder must have installed the...

Where is No. 1 on the distributor?

Ronnie - Thanks, that is the diagram I was looking for. Dave 72dt - Thanks. If the correct positions according to the diagram does not solve the problem, I will use your outlined procedure. Daves55Sedan - The mounting/locator indentation I referred to is aka the "notch". I have done many a...

Who do you like for rechroming

Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN does show quality work, but they are expensive. I used Chrome Wizard, just outside Nashville, but would never do that again. Custom Coatings, Tallahassee, FL, did a great job at a reasonable cost for me on pot metal restoration, but they don't have facilities...

Where is No. 1 on the distributor?

Replaced cap, rotor, condenser and plug wires. But did not pay attention to where the wires were (on distributor0 when I took it apart. So now it won't start. This is 1957 312 (Y-block). I know the firing order is 15486372. Since the rotor turns counter-clockwise (viewed from above), I...

    Fairlane Question

"I also like the '56's but I see they are more scarce and MORE expensive." Ford production was 1.4 million vehicles in 1955. Ford production was 1.4 million vehicles in 1956. Unless there is some unusual condition in your locality, availability should be the same. The price of the cars relates...

1956 Crown Victoria Vent Window Handle

I bought one for my CV, thinking it's got to fit if it fits all the other models. Well, they are correct, it will not. I did not study the minute difference/s with a magnifying glass. And yes, I too have been unable to find any source (for a new reproduction).

    Lowering 1955 Ford CV

1st I fully agree with georgewarren, "shorter springs change the geometry". Also shock performance. This can effect handling/control. 2nd I fully agree with parklane, the Granada spindles/discs are the way to go. The other trick I used on my Crown Vic was tweeking the tire size. I had new...
