My 1932 Ford Roadster V12 in the magazine !!

I thumb through the Car Kulture and Hot Rod Deluxe magazines in supermarkets looking for Barn member cars. I knew I'd have to eventually see Frenchy's deuce. Congrats and well deserved!! Lonnie

I Can't Stop My Clutch Chatter On My '53!

Excellent point. If the trans was brute force bench pressed in and left to hang by the clutch hub before stabbed into the pilot bushing/bearing it will likely bend the disc hub. Lonnie

    "Power" valves vs. "Spark" valves

Honestly, I don't know. I've never dealt with spark control valves but it works great for power valves! Lonnie

I Can't Stop My Clutch Chatter On My '53!

As crazy as it may sound, if your engagement is now in the upper part of your pedal travel, readjust it to begin engagement 1" off the floor so it is fully engaged at half pedal travel. Lonnie

Quick sanity check - 41 pu headlamp wiring.

Mart, the harness crosses over in that channel on the backside of the radiator under the tubes. It's held in place by the folding tangs. Lonnie

Hauling a pickup.... Why SO difficult?

I've only done it once but I called a large nation-wide broker with my from-and-to and they gave me a nice low price. Their fee is flat rate off your credit card with the rest in cash to the driver. After three weeks of nothing I called to ask "what's up?" and was told no "hits" on my haul which...

    Rebuilt Flathead Problems.

Installed valve spring seat pressure. First off, Ol' Ron gets full credit for this method to measure installed height pressure... With fully installed valve assembly resting off the lifter, measure the spring from the bottom of the guide to the top of the retainer with a divider or dowel...

How To I.D. a Merc Flathead

And don't think the guys rebuilding those engines in large factory-authorized shops weren't putting in ford cranks and slipping the mercs out the door during a smoke break. Lonnie

    Rebuilt Flathead Problems.

When I say "earlier" I mean '49 and '50 engines had the long springs with single piece retainers. When the timing issue is solved, the valve issue comes down to installed height. With a stock cam and long springs like you have installed, you'll need 2.125" which will be stock spring pressure. If...

    Rebuilt Flathead Problems.

Looks like the valves, springs and retainers are not compatible. 1. Those are not flathead valves with that much stem sticking out below the retainer. 2. The springs are upside down and are the longer springs for earlier engines without rotating type retainers. These springs will likely bind...

    Building for Torque Porting Question

Here's one of Ol' Ron's posts that I have in my recipe book... "Take a 258ci with 39-41 "A" heads, that's 8:1 CR. Add a 2GC or Holley 2110 carb from a 55-6 truck and you have axle breaking torque." Lonnie

How can I get a replacement registration

Here's a form from the Virginia DMV... https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/vsa22.pdf I hope your car has an aftermarket frame or really looks like it is. Virginia is super strict on titling anything sketchy. I brought my "lost bill of sale" pickup here from Montana and couldn't find a...

    Rebuilt Flathead Problems.

So from here-on, verifying the cam position is best done when the mark on the 8BA pulley is aligned with the pointer at TDC on the EXHAUST stroke where you can see the valves rocking like Mart described in post #8. Here's an excerpt from Walt Dupont from a long-ago post that walks you through...

Check the wear of the piston and condition of leather on the piston in the distributor. If the piston is loose it will vibrate in the bore and make a ringing sound. Lonnie
