    installing fuel tank

Your correct. I did not install it in one continuous piece. I cut it and installed it in three pieces. One between tank and windshield frame. And one on either side where the tank meets the cowl. After installing in three pieces and still having a difficult time with lots of cursing during the...

    installing fuel tank

I used strips of tape to hold the welting onto the top of the tank. I slid it in place, and moved the welting around with a small flathead screwdriver through the holes in the windshield frame. Got it lined up pretty good that way. When your done you can cut off whatever tape is exposed on the...

    Oil pump

You could get a small bolt with the same thread size (bring the plug with you to the hardware store) and use it to temporarily hold the pump in place.

    Backfiring

Wow.. lucky nothing worse happened! It looks like my ignition cable has seen better days but the car has no troubles starting and running, it just backfires occasionally while driving. However, the ignition cable is on my to do list for this winter.

    Backfiring

Very interesting.. I’ll certainly give that a look once I get the carb off again thank you

    Backfiring

I have a marvel carb with the GAV turned out almost a half turn.

    Backfiring

Thanks rotorwrench. With the fuel line off the carb and gas valve turned on gas is flying out of there pretty quickly. I’d say there is sufficient fuel flow. So I guess maybe I’ll take the carb off and give it a good clean again. I’m getting really good at taking this carb apart..

    Backfiring

I will do this first and see if anything changes. Thank you!

    Backfiring

Interesting, thanks Ill look into this. Ill play with the GAV next time Im driving. Also, my ignition cable was electrical taped into the distributor from the previous owner. Sounds like this could be a problem aswell. I have a bit of a leak at the exhaust clamp at the bottom of the header, I...

    Backfiring

Ive had my tank off to clean the rust out of it, have cleaned my carb recently and I have an inline fuel filter I change frequently whenever it gets a bit of sediment in it. I don't think Ive reached 30mph since changing the timing gear haha. But I have had my distributor apart and have not...

    Backfiring

Hey guys, question here about my car backfiring.. I haven’t driven my A too much since owning it and my timing gear went. I replaced that and did a bunch of other things. Now it’s running and I’ve driven it twice since my repairs and it’s backfiring, mostly on downshifts but sometimes during...

    Cup holder

This one is slick! Hardly noticeable it looks like. I don’t really want a big bulky piece of plastic hanging off the dash..

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

Thanks Marshall for all the info! I’m glad it’s running and now just fine tuning. Before my large list of repairs started, I had my GAV set a little less then a half turn opened and it seemed like the car liked that the best. I’m at that same spot now, but I have messed with the air and idle...

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

So I got my battery tested, no good. I got a new one, installed it and it fired right up. It runs much better now since I re timed it, but it isn’t 100% yet. The idle adjustment screw is turned in quite far and with the hand throttle all the way up it wants to stall. I drove around the block...

    Cup holder

This is a good question, I’m curious as well… anybody care to chime in??

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

Yes your correct Marshall, the engine won’t turn over at all. My battery after a few days on the charger won’t fully charge. It’s out of the car now, I’ll take it to get checked tomorrow. If it’s no good I’ll get another and try to start it tomorrow after work. If then the engine turns over but...

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

Thanks everyone for all the knowledge and tips, Im hoping I can get out there tonight and do some disagnostics. Lots of good info here, Im sure Ill have it back on the road and running after trying all these ideas. Whether its a new battery or coil or all the other suggestions. Thanks guys

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

First thing I will get my battery tested, if it’s junk then I’ll replace and go from there. If that’s it then that’s awesome, if not I’ll move onto the coil and fingers crossed that’ll be it. Clean the points as well since I’m in there. I’ll report back with my findings. Thanks Fordbarn

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

I should have included in my initial post, when I went out and my charger indicated it was charged to atleast 80% I did try to hand crank it. Nothing happened, it didnt even try to start. So maybe the coil is fried? And likely the battery if it isnt charged up to 100% by tomorrow.

Left my Ignition on Like a Dummy....

Understood, I'll leave my charger on and see if it will reach 100% if not, well I guess I need a new one.. The points were closed, and the battery was fully charged when this happened. So Im thinking the coil is likely burnt out.. Ill have to research a way of checking it and I guess get a new...
