    Arvin Heater Kit

Used a Ford 150 heater core and enclosed it in a homemade plenum and attached this to the passenger sidewall. Ran hoses thru an existing hole in the passenger side firewall. Kept us comfortably warm during north Florida winters for a few years. Hoses, now disconnected from the heater core...

    Old age

Used a battery carrier to pull and place a new battery in the Model A this week. I’m 82 and very thankful for being agile and strong enough to continue keeping the 94 year old car running strong. Good exercise for agility and strength though!

    Large hex nut

Bob C, thanks again. That looks like it and the od is exactly 1 3/4 inches!

    Large hex nut

Bob C, thanks for getting the picture up for me. I found the nut when going thru a tray of nuts and washers. Thought it might be Model A or T related. By close measure it appears to be 1 1/4 inch id. So it could be pipe related — also a course thread. But it did look kind of Model A era to me.

    Large hex nut

Would post a picture but I can’t find a way to attach a photo that I did upload in the album section. Doesn’t seem user friendly. I looked at the old style sediment bowl hex nut inside the car and it’s way too small. All others shown in the Snyder Catalog are much smaller. Sorry that I led...

    Large hex nut

Found a large hex (gland) nut and wonder if it is used somewhere on the Model A Ford or T. Course thread 1 3/16 id, 1 3/4 od. Recessed slightly on one side. Can’t locate it in Snyder catalog. Looks very old. Any ideas?

    Starter fuse

    Thanks!

    Starter fuse

Will install the inline watertight fuse that I bought if I find that 6v alternators eliminate runaway.

    Starter fuse

I like the modern fuses (C fuses?) also but found the watertight inline glass fuse holder at NAPA — 30 amp with 10 gauge wire. I run 6v alternator. Would that negate a runaway problem?

    Starter fuse

I noticed what appeared to be some evidence of a short at one of the fuse posts. There was an obvious short at the holder at my last attempt to install it. I bought a 30 amp inline watertight fuse holder and will use it if I can figure a way to prevent runaway alternator output in event of a...

    Starter fuse

Have had two starter fuse holders fail on me in a relatively short period. It is said that a starter fuse which blows when the car is running can lead to runaway generator/ alternator output which can fry lights, horn, etc. What can counteract this — another fuse location? Wouldn’t want to...

    Sealed beams

Have had sealed beams with both six volt generator and alternator. Sealed beams when I bought the car — I liked the look because it was reminiscent of what a Model A would have looked like during the 40’s and 50’s. But I did revert to the old style and have to admit that they actually put out...

    LED headlight bulbs

Seeing ads for LED headlight bulbs which are easy replacements for the original bulbs. I saw somewhere that aftermarket LED replacement headlights in headlight buckets/ fixtures made for conventional headlight bulbs could create harmful glare conditions for oncoming traffic. Is there any...

which is the best way to go

I’m going to try synthetic 10w-30 for the next oil change. Looks like a lot of Model A owners are doing this — it’s getting real hard to find conventional oil. I’ve read that the new synthetic oils are ok for older engines and give better protection against overheating. And they are...

    Blue Ridge Parkway/ Skyline Drive

My wife and I toured on highways parallel to and near the Blue Ridge/ Skyline Drive in a totally stock 31 Tudor. It amazed me how fit the Model A is for touring the west N.C. and east Tn mountains. Very rarely had to downshift even on steep downgrades and could usually make it up fairly steep...

2013 cross country record breaking Model A trip

Saw again an account of the Rod Wade and Michael Flanders record breaking pre-war car cross country 2013 trip on modern roads/ interstates — 3000 miles in 50 hours, 20 minutes and 6 seconds averaging just under 60 MPH, I wonder if any significant mods were done to the car. Can’t find any info on...
