    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

That is a very nice looking and setup. Thanks for sending. It looks like yours is a short bed? My bed extends about a foot past the rear edge of the fender. You guys are all putting me to shame. My pickup is finished in rust and primer. Lol.

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Cool, I looked under my pickup and now your frame pictures make so much more sense. The bed floor framework is like a box which allows the top of the gas tank to fit inside of it. It's all coming together in my very small brain. I'm very glad you sent the pictures. Thanks again.

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Deuce, You are absolutely right, I crawled under the pickup and saw that the wood floor is mounted in a framework and the spreader bar bolts to that. Amazing what getting eyes on target can do for the understanding. Thanks.

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Ok, I understand about the license plate. Good suggestion on flipping the bracket upside down. As I study your picture, I forgot about the backup light. I'll have to take that into my planning too. Thanks, John

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Cool, Thank you for the excellent pictures. I hope my pickup looks half as nice as your does one day. Your rear setup is pretty much what I would like to do, so thanks for the pictures. Given the bumper location, do you have any visual interference with seeing the license plate? I don't...

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Ok, thanks. I'll check into the sub structure under the floor. There's so many things I don't know about this truck but I'm learning one part at a time.

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Karl, Good info and a great idea. I didn't know there wasn't a rear bumper. I've seen a few trucks with a rear bumper, but they were all hot rods (I'm not keen on hot rods, but I think an original "style" bumper tucked in close to the tailgate would be nice). I guess I can assume that rear...

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

Deuce: Thanks for the reply. So the support tabs are for the pickup bed? Is that the purpose of the spreader bar, to support the bed? Was there something, like a piece of channel iron or plate that went between the support tabs and the wood bed? Seems like just two bolts directly into wood...

    34 Pickup Rear Spreader Bar

I'm determined to add a rear bumper to the back of my '34 Pickup. As far as I can tell, the rear bumper is the same as the front bumper, it's straight across and doesn't have a dip like the passenger cars. I'm pretty sure there is a round spreader bar that bolts to the rear frame horns. The...

34 Ford Pickup Rear Bumper and Brackets

I'm looking for a rear bumper (or front bumper) for a '34 pickup. I can also use the rear bumper mounting brackets. No hangar queens though, my pickup is a driver. Thanks, John

    34 Ford Primer Removal

Ex: That's what I was thinking. Repainting is not on this truck's horizon, at least until I see how much of the paint is left underneath the primer. Maybe, I might just quit where I am, throw a couple of stuffed burlap bags in the back, get a pair of bib coveralls, and go to a car show as is...

    34 Ford Primer Removal

Brian, You could very well be right. I did not try to sand this piece, I used Acetone and microfiber cloths. But I only rubbed it enough to get off the surface primer and not enough to try and get primer out of the cracks. I'm going to try a larger, flatter surface, but sometime after this...

    34 Ford Primer Removal

Al: Yes, 26 years in the military, it was a wild ride and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I ordered a pack of 50 microfiber towels and as soon as the heat lets up, I'll give it another try. I recently tried my hand at the front bed top rail. It came out pretty good, but it is a narrow piece...

34 Pickup Temp Sensor and Gauge

Yes, it is the original fuel gauge (as far as I can tell). I hadn't thought much about doing something with the fuel gauge yet. However, I have a new fuel tank to install and I'm going to have to figure out how to get a fuel gauge to work. I will start a new thread for that. I'm a bit...

    Vanity plates

I got nuthin. Delaware terminated their vanity plate program about two years ago because a woman had a plate with "FCANCER". She had been battling breast cancer and survived. She said it meant Fight Cancer. I guess someone complained that the F stood for something besides Fight. End result...

34 Pickup Temp Sensor and Gauge

Thank you for the info. You just made my job a whole lot easier! It's nice to know that someone has already done this. I'll try either the Amazon gauge or other aftermarket. I have an IR gun so I'll be sure to check the calibration. I greatly appreciate it, John

    34 Ford Primer Removal

I'll show my ignorance here, but are cracks like this pretty common in these years?

    34 Ford Primer Removal

Al, I tried alcohol and mineral spirits but they had no effect. I gingerly applied some acetone and it took off some primer very quickly. My paper towel was grey, but no black. However, I noticed a lot of small hairline cracks in the black paint, just like you mentioned. Do you think the...

    34 Ford Primer Removal

Thanks Al. I will be mindful of the hairline scratches and abrasions. The good news is the primer is very very thin and old so I don't think it's going to take much to remove it. I'm going to put the acetone on the back burner and start with some of the less caustic options first. I will...
