Sorry for the delay on this steering issue. I've order a 1964 Ford parts book and a ford parts interchange manual by Paul A. Herd. The interchange manual hasn't proven to be a great success. Anyway, The steering box HCA BU had a 3 3/4 turns stop-stop in the car. When I removed it from the car...

Got the Illustrations this time. Thank you for your effort and God Bless Selmer.

I'll be calling most of these people to see what they have in the way of parts or a correct gearbox. Thanks and God Bless, Selmer

I hate to take the car apart and have it sitting in the garage in my way for weeks/months trying to find parts. I would rather have a new gear or enough parts to completely rebuilt this one before even getting started. Short on room, long on cars. I would appreciate an exploded view drawing of...

I would like to have a new worm and sector. The box is completely worn out. The steering wheel turns at least 1/4 turn without moving the steering arm. The adjustment is as tight as it will go so all this is in the box itself. Then you can add in for the tie rod ends and so on. I have all new...

Thanks all. I'll call all these places tomorrow. God Bless, Selmer

Thanks for the replies. No luck at either web site, Larres Corporation or https://www.redheadsteeringgears.com/, for a steering gear. Have a great evening and God Bless, Selmer

Does anyone know where I can find the internal parts to completely rebuild the steering gear on a 1964 Fairlane. The gear box is #HCA BU 4E 12 B. I have searched the internet with no results. There are complete steering boxes on Ebay, but they don't know the gear ratio and will only say that...

Well, to begin with I'm very pleased with the kit. The line from the MC to proportioning valve is a result of misinformation from the internet. The slack in the MC push rod may have always been there. Something I never through to check. If I have measured the bore of the MC to start with, I...

The brake problem has been resolved on the 1964 Fairlane. First of all a new 1 inch master cylinder was installed in place of the 15/16 one that came with the disc brake kit. Second the front brake line was ran to the top of the proportioning valve instead of the front. The front connection...

Thanks Bob. I plumbed according to #2 and that has been changed. God Bless

I really appreciate the replies to my dilemma. Everything that has been suggested has been reviewed and gone over on the car. The combination valve in question does not have a metering valve on the front brake side as I was told. It is a pressure differential valve. These were used on other car...

I'm getting a lot of good information and I really appreciate it. I can assure everyone that it will be tried and evaluated. After 31 years as a mechanic and 70 years old I've never ran into a problem with converting brakes. After careful inspection and researching bore sizes, I'm looking at...

Thanks all. The rear drums have been turned and the shoes have a pretty even wear pattern on them. The rear brakes have self adjusters on them and brakes are really a little tighter than I would normally adjust them manually. As for the master cylinder push rod, I'll machine an 1/8" spacer...

Thanks to all who have replied. I'll try to answer all questions in this one reply. I'm using DOT-3 brake fluid. The Master cylinder push rod is about 1/16-1/8 short, which I would consider normal. I don't believe you would want one tight; Or would you? There is 3 inches free travel in the...

Has anyone used the Chockostang Classic Mustang/Fairlane disc brake conversion on a 1964 Fairlane 500? This conversion was listed to include the 1964 Fairlane. I can't get a good brake pedal. I've replaced the new combination and master cylinder with other new matching components. There was no...

This is made for the early 1928 model A's. I was told that this wheel was made in the U.S.A. Some manufacturers steering wheels require a lot of sanding and polishing but, this one does not. It's beautiful the way it is, just install and enjoy. $135 + $12 shipping. The windshield wipe motors...
