    Great service from Charlie

Sent my crab distributor and carb to Charlie a while ago to see if he could help my yucky running 38. Got the parts back yesterday, installed them this morning and fired it up. WOW. What a difference. Big difference in idle and throttle response. Wants just a tad bit of choke so will have to...

    Big and littles

Thank you, Pete!!! Just what I was hoping to find. Kinda like the looks of it. Understated, but still has a touch of the rodder to it.

    Big and littles

Have really enjoyed the latest pics of the cars with the big and little tires. Almost all show white walls or black walls on white wheels. I am considering them on my 38 sedan with wide 5's, but do not want whitewalls. Anybody have a picture of big and little black walls on black wide fives with...

    wheel balance

Back again for more excellent advice!! My 38 has the wide 5 wheels. 5 on 10 1/2. Does anybody know a way to balance these ? Went to Discount Tire and they say no. My local guys say these old units don't need it, but mine seems to feel as tho it wants a balance job. I there an adapter available...

    oil leak

thanks for the tips Zeke. Will order the manual as it sounds like it is pretty detailed. Gonna have to think on this a bit and decide if I want or can tackle it. :)

    oil leak

38 sedan restored before I got it. Everything looks really well done, but oil pan leaking a bunch from drivers side front area of rail. Question: How much of a job is it to pull the pan and replace the gasket? If it is easy, I will tackle it. If it is hard, probably not. I am not sure I can...

Tube shocks on mech brake 38?

Posted this on the other site also: Any way to put tube shocks on my 38 sedan with mechanical brakes? Just finished repairing the whole mechanical system with the help of FlatheadTed, and they are now working quite well. The car does porpoise quite a bit with any kind of road deviation, even tho...

    radiator shroud for 38

Do you guys know if there is a radiator fan shroud that will fit my 38 sedan? Have searched a lot but all I have found is modern fiberglass units that must be heavily modified. I still have the fan on the generator, not an electric fan. Didn't Ford put one for the pickups?

    Cosidering juice brakes

V8: I talked briefly to "Early Ford Store" in Ca. They say they have a bolt in kit for my 38 that uses all bolt in parts including prebent lines etc. I explained that I was a bit elderly and inquired if I could install this myself. He assured me it was easily done, even for a mostly worn out...

    Cosidering juice brakes

Now that I have the 38 sedan running pretty good, I find that the brakes leave a lot to be desired. Am thinking of converting with the kit from Early Ford. I realize that I will have to change drums and probably hubs, which puts me into 15" wheels and tires. You guys with the 15" on your rides...

    Low power, low vacum

Success!!! Put her back together and advanced the timing from stock, 4 degrees. And yes, I went the right direction this time. Put in the #50 jets and started her up. Now I am getting 12-13 inches of vacum. Took it out for a drive and wow, it's like a completely different motor. Twice the power...

    Low power, low vacum

Yup, you are right. I spoke before I knew what I was talking about. Looking in the old service manual I have, it showed a picture of a carb and I thought it said Stromberg. Wrong, you are right it is a Ford with 94 cast into the body. The main jets did not have any number on them but using drill...

    Low power, low vacum

Well, call me stupid.!!! All this time messing with the distributor, I now find out I have been retarding the timing substantially. I set it in the car at factory setting and then thought I was advancing it by moving the screw and plate UP. After reading several articles and Van Pelts...

    Low power, low vacum

Evidently I can only think of these things one at a a time. When advancing the timing, which way do you move the screw on the crab distributor? Up or down? If the distributor rotates ccw when viewed from front, wouldn't you move the adjusting screw opposite direction of rotation to advance...

    Low power, low vacum

Oh yea. Forgot to tell you I did pull the carb and it is a Stromberg and the main jets do not have any markings on them at all. Looked them over good with a magnifying glass after getting them out, but no marks. Do the stock jets not have markings, but bigger or smaller ones do?
