I've seen clutch pilot bearings replaced with bronze bushings and it seemed to work well. I wonder if the use of a bushing in the input shaft pocket has any effect on the ease of shifting gears.

Re: Modified A will not Calihute Bingo! Years ago I experimented with all manner of modifications on Volkswagen Beetle engines. Each additional tweak to carburetors, engine displacement, camshaft, and exhaust resulted in a some improvement in performance. It was only after the addition of one...

Good information! Fortunately, the taper on my unit was intact and the time spent freewheeling by the pulley was brief. Thanks!

Struggled to determine why a non-charging generator will motor well when the fan belt is off. Surprised to find that the pulley had lost its grip on the armature shaft and was free to spin on it such that the armature no longer generated amps. I wonder why Ford didn't think it necessary to have...

Military use of the airplane for reconnaissance began almost immediately. It didn't take long for its use in attacks on enemies to be realized. In 1911, the Italians first undertook aerial bombing of an Ottoman Turkish encampment in Libya.

Re: “B” Grind Cam It appears that Jim Brierley was referring to the Model B cam having 3 different versions. I have never seen a Ford print that supports this for camshafts installed in Model-B engines during the 1932-34 period. However, I have seen camshafts with little wear in engines that...

Re: “B” Grind Cam With the two extra bearings, the 5-bearing cams had shorter journals. The change is covered in the Ford Service Bulletins and Ford made some for use in the 3-bearing blocks by turning down the 2nd and 3rd journals so as to ease installation. I have wondered if the use of...

Thanks to all for the help with this! I removed the cutout and tested it on the bench and found zero continuity between BAT and ARM contacts. I also found 36 ohms resistance between the ARM contacts and the base. I tested some other cutouts that I had picked up at swap meets and found some...

I am not getting any ammeter wiggle when turning on or off the ignition or turning on/off lights so suspect that the ammeter is dead. Everything else is working OK. My main concern now is that there is no way to tell if the cutout is closed and draining the battery (This happened before once...

An experience with Earl Scheib was only one of my many youthful indiscretions.

Keith, thanks for the tip regarding Snyder's. I sometimes forget what a wealth of details can be found in the vendor's catalogs.

Also, the vendors list the seat back springs as to early or late 1931 but provide no dimensions. The Ford documents available from that time don't seem to list the dimensions, as well.

The late '31 seats have the ratchet or sawtooth adjuster. The question is actually very important when ordering an upholstery kit as the ipholstery is cut to fit the springs.

I am restoring a late '31 coupe. The seat frame with the associated hardware is in place but the springs and covers are missing. I understand that the late 31 coupes have springs of a different size and have located a set but the current owner has no idea if they fit the early or late coupes...

He is quietly rusting in peace, the paint having lifted off too soon after the final application. The overspray on his shoes is still intact and will be in perpetuity.

I have seen the number stamped on the top of the left side motor mount, which can be regarded as a component of the frame. Easier to lift the hood as compared to the left side body.

That's exactly what I was looking for and I forgot to check Snyder's. Thanks, Marshall!

I need to replace the window Felts on the top and one side of one door of my coupe. The vendors seem to only sell a full set which I don't need. Has anybody made use of generic window felts from the many sources available? I see some that are of the correct dimensions but may not be for a car...

My Dad worked as a regional sales manager for Texaco for 45 years starting in 1948. When we cleared out his overflowing garage there was a hoard of stuff dating back to when Texaco was called the Texas Company. Banjo signs, tubs of Marfak "0" grease, etc, etc. This was before the petrolia...

While not original to the car, why not just dispense with the inside of the distributor location and mount the condenser grounded to the firewall as shown in Bob Bidonde's graphic? This would position it away from engine heat and be easier to replace when needed. It would also open the door to...
