    engine question

I don't know of any early V8 chapters. I am in a rural aria, and like it that way. I know it is rare. I picked it up right before the pandemic. Rescued it. from a field under a tarp. I have a passion for old cars too. I did do some brake work a while back. The master cylinder says "Lockheed"...

    engine question

I like your thought. It is hard to put a value on the "cool factor". Riding around with flathead V8 has it in spaded!

    engine question

I spent many weeks soaking the rings with marvel mystery oil. That is how I finally got the crank to turn. I would rock it back and forth, taking my time, just a little more each time until I finally got a full rotation. My first hurtle is to get fire to the plugs. I installed new plugs and...

    engine question

When it came to me, the engine was frozen in place. Over time I was able to free it. It spins with the starter now. No fire at the plugs. It needs a distributor. It had a Mallory after market distributor. I believe it has failed. So i need another. If i could get fire, perhaps I could get it to...

    engine question

What is a easy engine to install on my 39 sedan? I don't have a ton of money, and would like to do it on a budget. Just get her running where I can enjoy the car more. It has the original 85hp flathead, and original 3 speed trans. Are there any engines that will bolt to the old trans? I know...

39 No fire at the plugs

Did you have to modify the fan, or anything else? Is it plug and play?

39 No fire at the plugs

There's a whole lot of sense in that statement. You can look down in it and see whats happening. I like that. Lots of folks run the solid state jobbers, but it's a mystery box. The car came to me with one of those solid state unit and its been nothing but trouble. There is something wrong with...

39 No fire at the plugs

This is how it is wired. No spark.

39 No fire at the plugs

The positive 12 volts goes to the + side of the coil. Negative to the negative on the coil. Green to chassis ground from the harness. On the battery, + goes to the starter solenoid. Negative on the battery goes to lug on the engine providing chassis ground. All these connections have been...

39 No fire at the plugs

That's what I am thinking as well. I never saw it produce a spark. What I see offered for sale now looks like the one that is on the car now. The one that failed. The exception is the cheaper "speedmaster". The video I saw of the setup for the duel points Mallory looks a little intimidating...

No. I should have included that in my first post. You were being helpful. I apologize.

39 No fire at the plugs

I don't think it has points. One more question. What is the resister for? I always thought for dropping the 12v back to 6, for the other accessories. That's just a guess. Does it need to be in series with the coil+?

39 No fire at the plugs

I'm trying to start this car after decades of sitting up. It has a Mallory distributor with a new coil. I have it configured for 12 volt, negative ground. Only the ignition and starter are active, at this point. So if I apply +12 to the coil+, and negative to the - of the coil, it should produce...
